Good evening and welcome to LIVE text coverage of the Champions League Last 16, second leg clash between Real Madrid and Schalke at the Bernabeu. The Spanish giants and current holders will be confident of finishing off the job on home turf and securing a last eight berth after they claimed a 2-0 success in the first leg of this tie.

A bad omen for Schalke... Real Madrid and Schalke have played each other three times previously, with the Spanish side winning all three by an aggregate of 11-2.

Schalke clear their area and launch a counter attack that ultimately comes to nothing with a wasteful cross flashing harmlessly behind Casillas' goal.

More dangerous play on the left from Real sees Benzema waste a chance to pick out Bale at the far post. But he does get the consolation of a corner ball...

Coentrao bursts down the left and drills a low ball towards Bale but it's hacked clear at the near post. Solid defending.

Coentrao floats a long ball over the top towards Ronaldo but it's got too much pace on it and runs through for Timon Wellenreuther. You could have driven a bus through the middle of the Schalke defence there.

Schalke are winless in their last four Champions League away games against Spanish clubs (D2 L2). Their last victory dates back to October 2001 when they beat Mallorca 4-0.

No surprise to see Ronaldo involved in a pre-match presentation relating to UEFA.com's team of 2014 - and his appearance in tonight's line-up spells trouble for Die Knappen. The Portugal star has netted five goals and delivered two assists against Schalke in just three games. He has only netted more against Ajax (7) and Galatasaray (6) for Real in this competition.

Elsewhere tonight, Porto will be aiming to make home advantage count as they entertain Basel. The sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Switzerland.

Roberto Di Matteo: "To be able to compete against a team like Madrid our team needs to have a perfect day and hope that they are not in top form. Then we could get a positive result. We have a good side and the players are all very willing and ready to develop further and improve day in, day out. That's very important, that they push themselves to the limit, so we hope we can achieve a good result. The spectators enjoy these European nights very much as they are so different to the regular Bundesliga matches."

Carlo Ancelotti: "We are not going to change our identity, we have scored a lot of goals playing that way. If they are in good shape physically it is non-negotiable that they will play. They have given us a lot and I have total confidence in them. They have suffered a dip in form, but that is what happens, not just with the three of them. They have scored less lately because the team is not helping the forwards."

Real are boosted by the return of Luka Modric who is named on the bench. The Croatia playmaker has not featured since November due to a thigh problem. Ancelotti opts for BBC in attack while Alvaro Arbeloa, Sami Khedira and Fabio Coentrao also get run outs. Schalke had concerns over some of their key men leading into this one, but name Benedikt Hoewedes and Klaas-Jan Hunteaar in their side despite the pair picking up knocks in Saturday's 3-1 Bundesliga win at home to Hoffenheim. Forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Motiing and midfielder Marco Hoeger are also passed fit. Kevin-Prince Boateng is missing through suspension.
