Luis Suarez scored twice as Barcelona came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, although the match might have finished very different had Fernando Torres kept his discipline.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker had given his side a 1-0 lead at the Camp Nou only to be shown two quick-fire yellow cards for a couple of foolish tackles, leaving Diego Simeone’s team down a man in the quarter-final first leg.
Atletico defended stubbornly despite their numerical disadvantage but were eventually broken down by Barcelona’s formidable frontline, with Suarez scoring two second half goals to give the Catalans a narrow lead ahead of the return leg at the Vicente Calderon.
Suarez himself was perhaps fortunate to remain on the pitch following a kick-out and throat grab of Filipe Luis, with no less than 10 yellow cards show over the course of the feisty match. Ultimately, Simeone must have been thankful to have only suffered a single-goal defeat given the circumstances.

TALKING POINT

Did Fernando Torres cost Atletico Madrid a win at Camp Nou? It was all going so well for the most maligned striker in the European game, with Fernando Torres striking the opener for Atletico Madrid. But he followed that goal up by picking up two quick-fire yellow cards and leaving his side down by a man. The capital club felt the effects of Torres’ stupidity late in the contest, as they suffered fatigue, and Diego Simeone will ponder how different things could have been had his number nine kept his cool. Atletico were comfortable until that point.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Luis Suarez (Barcelona): The former Liverpool striker certainly didn’t turn in his best performance of the season, but he scored two of his most important goals. Luis Suarez now has 45 goals in 45 appearances for Barcelona in the 2015/16 campaign and showed real finisher’s instinct to turn this match around for the Catalans. Although he was perhaps lucky to stay on the pitch after a couple of flashpoints, for which he could have seen red.
