Club Brugge boss Michel Preud'homme's, a former Belgium international goalkeeper, believes his side will need divine intervention to prevent United from claiming a spot in the group stage.

"Miracles happen sometimes, but they are two goals in front and they are a very professional team. To get a miracle, you need to be perfect and you need the other to not play at his best potential."

Van Gaal has been talking about how he expects the opposition to attack. Comprende?

"I thought maybe they go more direct than in Manchester but they are not the tallest players, so I don't think they go direct like a lot of English teams so maybe the same game but I have to wait and see."

Goals have been hard to come by for United. Fellaini isn't the answer according to 99% of fans, but he is one of only a handful of scorers so fat this season.

The dangerman for United tonight is former Barcelona academy prospect and Club Brugge skipper Victor Vazquez. However, Van Gaal's men are already aware of his talents following his role in the hosts' goal at Old Trafford last week.

Tonight's hosts are unbeaten in 10 European home games and have won three of their opening four league fixtures so it promises to be a test of United's big-game nerve this evening.

With all the talk of no goals in this United side, the omens are looking favourable pre-match. Only Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling from the XI who beat Bayer Leverkusen in November 2013, the last time United won away from home in Europe, are in the side to play Club Brugge. Back then the goals came from Chris Smalling, Nani, Jonny Evans and Antonio Valencia, plus an own goal.

Van Gaal knows the job is not done yet.

A big question tonight is can Wayne Rooney get back among the goals? Van Gaal has kept faith in the out of form England skipper, and tonight represents an opportunity to end a barren run that spans 10 games and 858 minutes.
