Stephan Lichtsteiner needs further tests after struggling for breath during the game with Frosinone last week, so Andrea Barzagli comes into the right side of defence.

Sami Kehdira makes his competitive debut for Juventus after finally recovering from the thigh injury he sustained in a friendly against Marseille on 1 August.
“Khedira hasn’t played for a while, but he will play tomorrow and he is ready. He’s a player of international level. I don’t know how long he can play, but he will certainly feature,” manager Max Allegri said.

This is the first ever competitive game between Juventus and Sevilla. Only one Spanish side has beaten Juventus in Turin in the Champions League: Deportivo La Coruna in March 2004 (1-0).

Unai Emery: "Playing against Juventus is a great chance for us to show the whole of Europe what we’re capable of. We face a team who were the tournament runners-up last season, a great squad, and our only goal is to perform well."

Massimiliano Allegri: "Winning the Champions League is a dream. I think Juventus's aim has always got to be to reach the knockout stage. In the past you had only four teams you wanted to avoid at that stage; now there are eight. So the aim has got to be to reach the last eight. First we've got to win the group and that's not easy. The Champions League has got to be a dream.""

Sevilla are in a similar position, as they won the Europa League back-to-back – including the Final two years ago here at the Juventus Stadium in Turin – but with Carlos Bacca gone are struggling to find form in La Liga. Ciro Immobile returns to face his former club, but is only on the bench, while Fernando Llorente, Adil Rami, Ever Banega, Daniel Carriço, Escudero, Kakuta and Vitolo are out of action. Both sides have done markedly better in Europe this season, as Juve won 2-1 away to Manchester City and Sevilla thrashed Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0. Now they face off for the leadership of Group D and the chance to put the crisis talk behind them for a while.

Juventus are without Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic, after he sustained a thigh injury against Genoa just over a week ago. Max Allegri reached the Champions League Final last term and nearly won the reble, but there are now many calling for his head after the worst Serie A start in almost 50 years. The injury crisis isn’t helping, as Claudio Marchisio, Mario Mandzukic, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Stefano Sturaro, Kwadwo Asamoah and ‘suspended’ Martin Caceres are all unavailable.
