It's back! Welcome one and all to the beginning of another Champions League season. Tonight we have a cracker for you as Manchester City host last season's defeated finalists Juventus at the Etihad. After an impressive start in the Premier League, it's time for Manuel Pellegrini's side to step up their European exploits.

It's all over. Manchester City have lost in the Champions League again, and Juventus have shown that they remain a force to be reckoned with in Europe. A disciplined and defensively excellent performance from the Serie A champions who looked a class above their opponents. Goals from Mandzukic and Morata see the Italians go home with three vital points and City with much head scratching to do once again.

The 90 minutes are up at the Etihad and there are three minutes time added on.

A trademark whipped effort from Yaya Toure is palmed behind by the ever athletic Buffon.

The goalscorer Morata makes way and the vastly experienced Andrea Barzagli takes his place.

A bolt out of the blue there, it's come from nothing. Sergio Aguero is on, looked like Navas was being prepared before Morata's goal, and Samir Nasri makes way after another quiet performance.

GOAL! What a stunning goal from Alvaro Morata! Splendid stuff from the Spaniard, who unleashes a venemous left footed strike into the far corner from 18 yards out after the ball bounced invitingly to him after striking Kolarov. Still an excellent finish from the Juve forward.

Looks like Mario Mandzukic's evening is over. The Croat hasn't been moving around freely since the goal and now he's coming off. Paulo Dybala takes his place.

A calf injury for Kompany, apparently. But the Belgian takes his place next to Sterling on the bench. He doesn't look happy down there.

Vincent Kompany is taken off with a suspected injury, though he doesn't appear to be injured. Nicolas Otamendi comes on for his debut.

Kevin de Bruyne's on and Raheem Sterling makes way.

GOAL! Out of nothing Juventus are level. Mario Mandzukic finds some space off the back of Mangala and guides Paul Pogba's inch perfect cross into the back of the net. Superby dispatched by the Croatian, but that was made in France.

SAVE! Joe Hart gets down well to save from Stefano Sturaro who was barely 10 yards out there.

CLOSE! What a chance for 2-0, David Silva plays Sterling through but his low effort is very well saved by Buffon - single handedly - and Silva's rebound is turned over by, you guessed it, Buffon. Brilliant keeping.

GOAL! And there it is, Vincent Kompany heads Manchester City into the lead from a David Silva corner. Scratch that, it's an own-goal. Kompany climbs all over Giorgio Chiellni's shoulders and the Italian can only steer the ball beyond Buffon and into the net. Bizarre.

It's all gone very flat at the Etihad. City not creating much as Sergio Aguero trots down the touchline to warm up. Surely we'll see him at some point, fitness permitting.

Juventus again getting bodies behind the ball and making life difficult for City.

The referee blows for half-time and it's 0-0. A relatively good 45 from City against an extremely well drilled Juventus. Raheem Sterling should have scored early on and Bony blew City's best chance when he sliced wide from a decent position. Juventus have look threatening only in patches so far, but the scoreline suits them more than the home side.

CLOSE! Fernandinho is not very far away at all there. The ball is cleared out the box and sits invitingly for the Brazilian who piles into it but his effort swerves just past the post with Buffon beaten.
