It’s the fourth season in a row these two giants from Spain’s capital have locked horns in this competition, with Diego Simeone’s men still waiting to break their duck. Savic easily heads Kroos' delivery clear. Real come again and it needs a desperate header on the stretch to deny Ronaldo.

The resulting corner comes to nothing, but it seems to have sparked Real into life. They have a free kick in a dangerous position on the left flank. Kroos over it.

CLOSE! Wonderful play by Carvajal sees the Real full back burst free in the area. His low shot is fumbled by Oblak with Benzema a whisker away from gobbling up the rebound.

Pretty scrappy early doors. Atletico enjoying some good possession. Filipe Luis finds Griezmann on the edge of the box, but he's tackled before he can shift it and get get a shot away.
