WHO QUALIFIED FOR THE LAST 16 OF THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?

  • Group A - Borussia Dortmund (winners), Atletico Madrid
  • Group B - Barcelona (winners), Tottenham Hotspur
  • Group C - PSG (winners), Liverpool
  • Group D - Porto (winners), Schalke
  • Group E - Bayern Munich (winners), Ajax
  • Group F - Manchester City (winners), Lyon
  • Group G - Real Madrid (winners), Roma
  • Group H - Juventus (winners), Manchester United

WHEN IS THE DRAW?

The draw for the first round of the Champions League knock-out stage will take place at 11am on Monday, December 17 at UEFA's HQ in Nyon, Switzerland.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The winners of each of the eight groups are seeded, and will be away for the first-leg matches (scheduled for February 13/14 and 19/20), with the reverse leg taking place on March 5/6 and 12/13.
Teams from the same group or national association cannot be drawn against one another at this stage, so, for example, Tottenham won't be playing Manchester City, nor Barcelona, and nor will PSG be playing Lyon. However, that will change for the quarter-final draw, which will be completely open.
That means - taking into account those restrictions - that City v Atleti is the most likely fixture to be set in the last 16, with a 28.912 per cent chance of that coming out of the hat.
That will be an intriguing clash of styles should it actually transpire, with Diego Simeone's side setting up to defend robustly and creating few chances on goal, and Pep Guardiola's team averaging 2.67 goals per game and making 116 attempts on goal in the Champions League so far this season.
