Jurgen Klopp ends Liverpool's seven year wait for a trophy, landing the best cup of them all - the Champions League crown. Mo Salah's second-minute controversial penalty gave them the perfect platform and Divock Origi's late strike sinks Spurs. Something tells me there is much more to come from this young and hungry Liverpool side in the near future.

FULL-TIME! LIVERPOOL ARE SIX TIMES EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!

90'+4

'You'll never walk alone' rings around Madrid. Liverpool have been more clinical tonight, it's as simple as that.

90'+4

To their credit, Tottenham aren't prepared to give up. Alisson is on hand to deny shots from Son and then Kane.

90'+2

NO PENALTY! Kane goes down under the challenge of Matip but he was looking for it and the referee isn't fooled. Not Harry's night.

90'

FIVE minutes will be added on!

88'

Scenes in Madrid. Liverpool have absolutely nowhere near their best but they have done enough to win. And after this fascinating season, who can take it away from them? It is richly deserved.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool: Divock Origi, their hero against Barcelona, seals Liverpool's sixth European trophy! Tottenham fail to clear their lines from a corner, it falls to the Belgian who rifles a shot across goal and into the bottom corner.

85'

Son spurns a golden opportunity, heading over from close range, but it wouldn't have counted - he was in an offside position.

84'

SAVE! Eriksen's free-kick seems destined for the top corner but Alisson gets across to push it wide!

83'

FREE-KICK! Rose is caught by Milner just outside the penalty area. This is dangerous...

80'

DOUBLE SAVE! Alisson called into action, not just once but twice! Son's shot from distance is dipping and Alisson makes an awkward save. It comes back out to Moura who can only poke a toe at it and the Liverpool shot-stopper id down again to hold it.

79'

OVER! Kane switches the play to Trippier. His precise cross picks out Alli who can't get the direction on his header and can't keep it down.

78'

Football.

77'

It's quite sad, really, that the showpiece match at the end of such a gripping season is being played out at the tempo of a pre-season friendly.

76'

FANTASTIC DEFENDING! Wonderful defending from Van Dijk. That's not the first time you will have read that. The Reds centre-back shows frightening pace to take the ball off the toes of Son, who looked like he was through.

Eric Dier replaces Sissoko, who limps off the field.

73'

Ambitious from Alli, to say the least. He tries to lob Alisson with a first-time effort but he doesn't get enough on the shot and the Brazilian catches it with ease.

72'

Sissoko, Rose and Trippier are all struggling at the moment - perhaps it's cramp, but it must be a huge concern for Pochettino.

71'

Trippier drives to the by-line but his cross evades Kane by the slightest of margins. The English full-back gets a second bite of the cherry but this time Alisson is off his line to catch.

69'

CLOSE! With a drop of the shoulder, Mane goes past Eriksen easily, laying it off to Milner who shoots just wide.

68'

Moura's introduction has prompted a change in formation for Tottenham - they're now operating with a 4-2-4-1. Alli and Son are the widemen with Moura playing in behind Kane.

67'

Alexander-Arnold tries to squeeze a ball into a dangerous area but Alderweireld reads it, heading it behind for a corner. The resulting set-piece delivery is desperately poor.

MOURA IS ON! About time, too - the game needs a spark. He replaces Winks.

64'

It's unusual for Liverpool to have so little of the ball - they have had only 37 per cent of possession. It's Tottenham who are dictating the tempo, but they haven't created a real clear cut opportunity.

This game is begging for someone to grab it by the scruff of the neck. Lucas Moura, perhaps? Or maybe... James Milner? OK, maybe not, but he is about to come on.

The first change of the night sees Firmino, who has been off the boil, replaced by Liverpool's hero of the semi-final, Divock Origi.

57'

Son is having more joy up against Robertson and he wins his team a corner. The delivery is whopped to the back post but Alisson punches it clear.

56'

Another block! A long ball feeds Ali in behind the Reds' defence but Alexander-Arnold gets in front of his shot.

54'

Salah has a shot blocked but the danger isn't over. Robertson drops an inviting cross into the danger area but Lloris is out bravely to take the ball from Mane's feet!

52'

What a cross from Alexander-Arnold but it's just ahead of Salah who would surely have converted had he been a yard closer to goal.

50'

Spurs try a quick free-kick but Son makes his run too early and is flagged offside.

48'

A bright start to the second period from Spurs. Trippier whips one to the far post, Alli heads it on but Alexander-Arnold hacks it clear. It appears that Son has swapped flanks.

47'

The match is bound to open up at some stage, one would hope. Pochettino, of course, has Lucas Moura waiting patiently on the bench and the Brazilian is a potential match-changer. Pochettino may just give it 15 minutes or so before throwing him on.

  • 2nd Half
46'

Tottenham get the second-half underway. It's as you were in terms of personnel.

-

Let's be honest: this has been an anti-climax so far. Is it the heat? Nerves? Or is the fact that neither side have been in competitive action in almost three weeks? Still, the next 45 minutes couldn't get any worse...

  • End of 1st Half
HT

HALF-TIME: Mo Salah's second minute penalty separates the sides at the interval.

45'+1

OVER! Completely out of character from Eriksen, as the Dane lifts a really poor shot over the top from the edge of the box. That just about sums up a weird first-half.

45'

There will be two minutes of additional time to play.

44'

Terrible. Spurs launch a rapid counter-attack, opening up a dangerous three-vs-three scenario. But Alli's attempted through-pass to Son is dreadfully overcooked and Alisson is off his line quickly to gather the loose ball.

42'

Liverpool win yet another corner but this time Spurs clear easily at the near post. Three minutes until the break.

41'

Better, more fluid passing from Liverpool, as they spread it to Alexander-Arnold who forces another corner.

40'

Tottenham, are down to 10 men for now, as Vertonghen receives treatment for his arm injury.

39'

The resulting corner falls to Salah on the edge of the box but he fires it over. Meanwhile, there's a concern over Vertonghen who has somehow hurt his arm.

38'

THAT'S BETTER! Robertson eats up a lot of ground and with few options, he lines up a shot from all of 30 yards. And it's an absolute rocket. Lloris does well to tip it over the bar and the Scotland international still hasn't scored this season. But that was a cracking effort.

37'
36'

Henderson beats Rose on the flank and opens up the space for a cross... but it drifts over the head of Mane.

35'

There's a rather subdued atmosphere in Madrid at the moment, which is strange. The football on view at the moment certainly isn't helping. We need another goal to open things up!

33'

Spurs have enjoyed some nice possession, but the final ball has been really poor. Alisson hasn't been tested yet.

31'

Like I said, it hasn't been a great game for whatever reason - whether it's the heat, a lack of match sharpness, nerves or something else. There has been one shot on target at the half: Salah's penalty conversion.

29'

And Kane has had just five touches!

28'

In truth, it has been a poor match so far. The only talking point came in the first minute, when the referee flagged for a penalty. The opinion on whether it should have been given or not is very divided on social media.

26'

Pochettino is heated on the touchline and fumes at Henderson. The referee comes over to cool the situation down.

25'

SALAH CELEBRATES

24'

CRUCIAL DEFENDING! Liverpool's full-backs, as you would expect, are getting forward with plenty of space. Robertson whips in a delightful cross, it's a horrible one for Rose to deal with but he gets enough on his header to take it away from Salah who was waiting to pounce at the far post.

23'

SHOT! Under pressure from Alderweireld and with his back to goal, Salah holds the ball up well, swivels, but then fires a wild shot into the stands.

22'

The corner delivery is a little deeper this time but it's the same result, as Lloris punches clear once more.

21'

Salah's shot is deflected behind for another Liverpool corner. Van Dijk makes his way forward to contest Alexander-Arnold's delivery.

20'

Make no mistake, Tottenham have been the better side so far. Liverpool haven't kept the ball well enough.

19'

GOOD DEFENDING! Van Dijk is pulled out of position as Son drives forward in space, but Alexander-Arnold reads the situation well and gets across to make the tackle.

18'

Play is stopped as a streaker gets on the pitch. Imagine spending all of that money on a ticket only to do something so stupid and end up in a cell for the night...

17'

CLOSE! Alexander-Arnold shoots from all of 30 yards and I tell you what, it's not far away. It fizzes just wide of Lloris' post, though the keeper probably had it covered.

16'

The score-line is in their favour but Liverpool haven't been at their best in the opening 15 minutes. Klopp has spent most of his time barking orders and gesturing wildly at the sideline.

15'
14'

Vertonghen picks out Trippier with a delightful pass from all of 60 yards, but the full-back moves the ball backwards and the attack comes to nothing. Tentative.

12'

Tottenham have had 65 per cent of the ball in the early stages, but in truth, both sides have made a nervy start, despite Liverpool's early goal.

11'

Mane wins Liverpool their first corner of the night, which Alexander-Arnold whips in. There are a lot of bodies in front of Lloris but the Spurs keeper does well to punch it clear.

9'

OVER! Sissoko isn't known for his goalscoring record and he lifts a shot from 30 yards high over the bar. Decent response from Tottenham, though.

9'
8'

Was it a penalty? You've seen them given, but it's harsh on Spurs. Mane tried to deliver a cross, but the ball struck Sissoko, who was very close to the player, on his chest first and then on his outstretched arm.

7'
6'

Spurs make a positive response, with Son carrying the ball into the box and forcing a corner. But it's the man mountain Van Dijk who rises highest to clear with his head.

4'

That will settle Liverpool's nerves - and it will test Tottenham's mental strength. They have a long, long time to get back into the contest, of course, but it certainly isn't an ideal situation they find themselves in.

3'

Salah had a nightmare in 2018's final, forced off with an injury after a collision with Sergio Ramos, but he couldn't have asked for a better start tonight.

KICK-OFF! It's Tottenham versus Liverpool in the 2019 Champions League final, and it's LIVE! The Reds, in their all red kit, get us underway.

19:59

A minute's applause is taking place for the tragic Jose Antonio Reyes.

19:57

The players make their way down in the tunnel and out onto the pitch, allowing for a quick glimpse at the Champions League trophy. Whose name will be written on it come full time?

19:55

FIVE MINUTES UNTIL KICK-OFF! This feels massive. This is massive. Butterflies in the stomach, hairs raised on the back of the neck, and that's only how the commentator is feeling!

19:50

TEN MINUTE WARNING! We are almost there...

19:48

Some pre-match comments from the managers...

Pochettino: "We believe that over the last few weeks he [Kane] was ready to compete. Yesterday, he confirmed that.

Klopp: "We expected Kane to play. I feel we are ready, I don't think there is a real favourite. It will be intense and a tight game."

19:45

Liverpool's European record is world famous, but for Spurs, they are in new territory. Never have they played in the premier European club competition final before - and they haven't won a trophy in 11 years. What's more, Pochettino has never won a trophy in his managerial career. A huge, HUGE night ahead for Tottenham in their history.

19:40

For Liverpool and Tottenham fans, the last three weeks must have felt like an age, but now we are only 20 minutes from kick-off.

19:30

Spurs fans, look away now...

19:25

A huge roar welcomes the players as they run out for their warm-ups. Who is feeling up for this? How will the players harness their nerves?

Video - Breaking Views: Tottenham take 'big gamble' for Champions League final

00:52
19:20

Liverpool won both of the previous encounters with Spurs in the Premier League this season. Back in September, Gini Wijnaldum and Roberto Firmino were on the score-sheet to set the Reds up for an impressive victory, with Erik Lamela's late consolation too little too late for Mauricio Pochettino's side. In March, Klopp's men again edged it 2-1, but in much more dramatic circumstances. Toby Alderweireld's late own goal broke Spurs hearts after Moura cancelled out Firmino's opener.

19:15

Fans are piling in at the Wanda Metropolitano now, but it's the Liverpool supporters making most of the noise. They have to be confident of watching their team lift European trophy number six, don't they?

19:05

Kane has obviously proven his fitness this week and you simply have to pick your best players, don't you? Forming an attacking line with Heung-Min Son, the pair ought to give Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip problems. For Liverpool, it's no surprise that Firmino spearheads the attack. It's disappointing, however, that Milner loses his place in midfield, with Jordan Henderson given the nod by Klopp.

19:00

Like Liverpool, Tottenham also made hard work of the group stages. They went into the last game with their fate out of their hands but somehow a 1-1 draw with PSV was enough to see them into the last 16. An epic quarter-final with Man City followed, and who could forget Moura's 95th minute winner against Ajax to clinch a place in the final? Now the question is: does Pochettino's side have enough about them to win the whole thing?

18:55

Is starting Kane the right decision by Pochettino? Is he fully match-fit, will he last the 90 minutes and, most importantly, will he be effective?

18:52

The reports are true and Kane starts for Tottenham. Harry Winks also makes the starting XI. Lucas Moira, the hero of the semi-final, misses out with the Brazilian named on the bench.

18:50

As expected, Firmino starts for Liverpool in a frightening attacking trio alongside Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. James Milner misses out in midfield.

18:48

CONFIRMED TOTTENHAM LINE-UP

Starting XI: Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Son, Alli, Kane.

Subs: Gazzaniga, Vorm, Sanchez, Foyth, Davies, Aurier, Dier, Walkers-Peters, Wanyama, Lucas, Lamela, Llorente.

18:46

CONFIRMED LIVERPOOL LINE-UP

Starting XI: Allison, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Subs: Mignolet, Lovren, Milner, Gomez, Sturridge, Moreno, Lallana, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Brewster, Origi, Kelleher.

-

Spurs are in the building.

18:45

It's been quite the journey for Liverpool to the final. It's easy to forget that the Reds lost THREE games in Group C and only a victory over Napoli on matchday six sealed their place in the quarter-final. If you thought that was dramatic, what about the epic comeback in the last four against Barcelona? Trailing by three, Divock Origi inspired Liverpool to a 4-0 second-leg victory in a game that will go down as one of the most famous at Anfield.

18:40

A good omen for Spurs?

18:37

There are reports that Harry Kane will START for Tottenham, with Lucas Moura losing his place in the line-up. All will be confirmed in 20 minutes or so...

18:35

It should be no surprise that Liverpool are the favourites to claim their sixth European trophy. Having lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in the final last season, the Reds will be desperate not to feel that pain again. The players and manager will have learnt so much from that fateful night in Kiev and their experience could prove vital tonight.

18:25

Klopp's side have deservedly received the plaudits in a truly memorable and excellent campaign. The Reds finished 26 points ahead of Spurs in the race for the title, but agonisingly lost out on glory to Manchester City by a single point. For all the stylish football, Klopp has still not got his hands on a trophy since his move to Merseyside four years ago. In fact, he has lost the last six finals he has contested - with both Dortmund and the Reds - and could match Marcello Lippi's unwanted record of losing three successive finals in the European Cup/Champions League. Surely tonight is the night he delivers?

18:20

Jurgen Klopp has his own dilemma. Does he start Roberto Firmino? The Brazilian has recovered from a groin injury and while Klopp wasn't willing to put us out of our agony completely when asked in his pre-match press conference, he did hint Firmino would start. "If nothing happens from the moment he left the plane to now because I didn't see him since then, then he should be fine."

18:15

The big pre-match debate centres around Harry Kane and whether the Englishman should start for Tottenham. He has missed two months with ligament damage, last appearing in action on April 9, but Spurs hardly missed him most in Europe. He could only watch on as Spurs edged past Man City and Ajax to reach the showpiece final. Fernando Llorente played a huge part in the adventure while Lucas Moura has been a revelation in Kane's absence. Whether Pochettino is willing to take a risk on Kane will be hugely interesting, and if he is, who drops out?

18:10

Up to 100,000 fans have descended in Madrid this afternoon where they are enjoying blue skies and hot weather. The beer tastes good as well, I bet. As the clubs have been allocated just over 16,000 tickets each, the majority of folk are simply there to soak in the atmosphere. The scenes captured by video and posted on social media in Spain's capital have given me the goosebumps. Now it's almost time for the players to take centre stage.

-

The countdown is on!

18:03

This is it. The final of the Champions League to mark the conclusion of what has been an extraordinary season. It's fitting that the showpiece of the biggest club competition in world football is being contested by two high-intensity teams with a knack for drama and excitement. There are so many sub-plots to this tie so let's just get into the nitty-gritty.
