It’s a dry evening in Milan and victory will see City through to the knockout rounds, but Pep Guardiola is bound to have one eye on Sunday’s table-topping showing with Liverpool. GOAL! Atalanta 0-1 Man City (Sterling). Sterling wins the ball back and offloads to Silva. He finds Jesus, who backheels the ball delightfully into Sterling's path and he slots home! That's a lovely goal.

Jesus is annoyed not to win a soft free-kick and has some angry words for the linesman.

City are caught sleeping somewhat and a deep cross finds an unmarked Hateboer at th back post, but he volleys into the side-netting.

The visitors win the ball high up the pitch and look to fashion a chance, but Jesus and Sterling aren't on the same wavelength.

Atalanta get the game started.

Whistles and boos greet the Champions League music, possibly from both sets of fans.

The early games are over and Bayern Munich and Juventus have both won, securing their places in the last 16. Are City about to join the? Kick-off is five minutes away.

Of course, playing their 'home' games in an unfamiliar stadium might not being doing Atalanta any favours.

In his last 10 Champions League games, Sterling has nine goals and four assists.

The visitors are wearing the ice lolly kit tonight.

It's been a torrid debut campaign in the competition for Atalanta so far, with no points and just two goals scored. It's also in stark contrast to their domestic form, where they made a strong start to the season and sit fifth in Serie A having scored a league-high 30 goals in 11 games. It took City a few years to find their feet in the Champions League, so they may have empathy, but certainly not sympathy. They are not the opposition you want to be facing when you have conceded more goals than any other team in the competition.

The last of those wins came in the reverse fixture. Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick and Sergio Aguero a brace as City smashed Atalanta 5-1, condemning the Italians to three losses from three.

No team has failed to make the knockout rounds after winning their first three group games before. Manchester City have a perfect three wins from three so far.

Guardiola insisted pre-game that he wouldn’t rotate his squad, but it’s his comments from the weekend about Sadio Mane that people really wanted to talk about. Given how often he deals with the media, it’s hard to believe he didn’t know that his initial comments about were going to cause such a fuss.

As for City, only Fernandinho survives from the back four that played against Southampton. Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus also come into the team, with David Silva injured and Sergio Aguero on the bench and Guardiola names a strong side. It does feel like largely his second-string backline though, so maybe there's a chance for Atalanta to get at them there - or for someone like Mendy to show he deserves more starts.
