FT: Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 Man Utd. What a turn up for the books that was! An incredible win for the home side, but United got exactly what they deserved as they slipped to a first Champions League defeat of the season. Thanks for joining us. Goodnight.
OFF THE LINE! It would have been a lucky, lucky goal, Maguire helped it back towards goal, the ball loops into the air, it looks to be heading in, but Epureanu is there to hook the ball off the line!
Three minutes of added time to come.
- OffIrfan KahveciBasaksehir
Late change here to waste some time, with Kahveci replaced by Carlos Ponck.
- Yellow cardMartin ŠkrtelBasaksehir
Yellow card for Skrtel as he fouls Martial.
Maguire with the knockdown, but it is too close to the goalkeeper. Game over?
Finally, a decent ball into the box, it falls for Greenwood, but the teenager takes a heavy touch and runs the ball out of play for a goal kick.
Still, we wait for a real chance for United. So much talent on the pitch, but they are creating nothing.
Long ball from Maguire seeks out Martial, but it is overhit and goes out for a throw.
- OffDemba BaBasaksehir
- OnFredrik GulbrandsenBasaksehir
Demba Ba has been superb this evening, and he's given a deserved rest as Fredrik Gulbrandsen for the final 10 minutes or so.
Ba stays down after sliding in on Maguire. The old boy looks done.
- OffMarcus RashfordManchester United
- OnMason GreenwoodManchester United
Double change for United, with Mason Greenwood and Timothy Fosu-Mensah on for Wan-Bissaka and Rashford.
United cranking it up a tad, with several crosses coming in, but still no chances being created.
Pogba tries the stepover, but Shaw does not fancy the overlap.
United need to get the ball out wide. They are trying to find a gap through the middle of the Basaksehir backline that is simply not there.
With all this talent on the pitch, United have to do more here.
Audacious effort from Ba as he enters the United half, but he slips as he tries to catch Henderson off his line.
Time to prove he has still got it...
Lovely dummy from Fernandes, he gets into a shooting position, but again it is blocked.
- OffDonny van de BeekManchester United
- OnPaul PogbaManchester United
Double change for United, with Paul Pogba on for Van de Beek, and Edinson Cavani on for Mata.
Mata does well to tee up Fernandes, who drills for goal, but Skrtel makes a fine block.
United need to do more in attack here, start taking more risks.
Poor header clear from Wan-Bissaka is only as far as Irfan Can Kahveci, who volleys well over the top.
SAVE! Rafael is furious as he concedes a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty area. Fernandes steps up, curls it over the wall, but Günok beats the ball away.
Basaksehir with plenty of possession at the moment.
Fernandes gets the cross into the middle, but it is cleared.
All the possession with United at the moment, but they do not exactly look threatening.
Matic seems to have dropped into the back four, with McTominay sitting in midfield.
- OffAxel TuanzebeManchester United
- OnScott McTominayManchester United
KICK OFF! We are back under way here. Scott McTominay is on for Tuanzebe.
The bafflement prevails.
- End of 1st Half
HT: Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 Man Utd. No added time here. Chaotic defending from United leaves the trailing, but that goal from Martial at the end of the half could change everything.
A simple goal really. Luke Shaw crosses for Martial, who is unmarked, with the Frenchman heading home. There were just two minutes and 18 seconds between the goals.
- GoalAnthony MartialManchester United
GGGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!!! Istanbul Basaksehir 2-1 Man Utd. Lifeline for United from Martial!
United masters of their own downfall again here. Mata gives the ball away so cheaply, Deniz Türüç crosses, Ba does well to throw the dummy, before Visca arrives to hammer home.
- GoalEdin VišcaBasaksehir
GGGGOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!! Istanbul Basaksehir 2-0 Man Utd. What is going on here?!? The captain Visca with the finish.
Still, we wait for the first United shot on target.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka clips a cross into the middle, but Rafael is there again to clear.
Matic with the foul right on the edge of the penalty area, but the free-kick comes to nothing.
SAVE! Boli Bolingoli, on loan from Celtic, is full of energy. He gets space from Van de Beek on the left, and crosses for Danijel Aleksic. He gets a glancing header to goal, but Henderson collects.
BLOCK! Ball is worked to Martial at the back post, he gets the ball out of his feet, fires for goal, but Rafael flings himself at it to make the block.
Lovely first touch from Fernandes, but he cannot get the ball out of his feet to get the shot away.
The hosts are very comfortable here. United offering very little threat.
Won't have scored many easier.
Finally, United are getting their foot on the ball and keeping possession.
Nice ball from Fernandes down the line to Rashford, but the Tory Slayer cannot get the cross into the middle.
- Yellow cardAxel TuanzebeManchester United
LUCKY BOY! Axel Tuanzebe pulls Ba to the floor, when Ba did appear to be through on goal. A yellow card is brandished, but was Tuanzebe not the last man?
Ba pulls wide, to pick up former United defender Rafael's pass, but Ba's cross is cleared.
United look shell shocked. They cannot believe they have conceded a goal like that early on here. It is the hosts' first-ever Champions League goal.
Oh my, that defending. A long clearance up the pitch, nothing special, and all of a sudden former Chelsea striker Ba is in the clear. No United player is back to mark Ba, who races clear before slotting past Henderson. Remarkably poor organisation from United. Very 2014 at Anfield that goal!
- GoalDemba BaBasaksehir
GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! Istanbul Basaksehir 1-0 Man Utd. Well this isn't in the script as Demba Ba gives the hosts the lead!
CLOSE! Lovely patient build-up from United, the ball is worked to Luke Shaw, who drills just wide.
Better use of the ball from United, as Juan Mata, the most advanced of the United midfield diamond, looks to pick a pass.
Chance for Bruno Fernandes to have a shot at goal, but his volley from an acute angle eventually goes out far side for a throw!
Scrappy from United so far here. They keep possession when they get it.
Looks like Donny van de Beek is playing in a deeper role here for United early on.
- 1st Half
KICK OFF! We are up and running here in Istanbul.
So here we go. United have taken just seven points from their six Premier League games this season. It is their lowest tally at this stage since David Moyes' short stint at the helm in 2013-14. In Europe, however, it has been a different story. We are minutes away!
Ahead of kick off, catch up with all the latest transfer talk from across Europe, as Barcelona revive their interest in Memphis Depay.
The old friends take to the field together this evening.
One man will be watching on with relish should United again struggle this evening.
They have excelled on the continent this season, if not domestically...
So who are the home side? Not everyone's cup of tea given their links to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his dictatorial regime, little Basakserhir became only the second Turkish champions in 35 years who were neither of Galatasaray, Besiktas or Fenerbahce.
Reds in town.
HEAD TO HEAD: This will be the first meeting between İstanbul Başakşehir and Manchester United in any European competition. Basaksehir's only previous experience against English opponents in the qualifying phase of the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League, losing 1-0 on aggregate to Sean Dyche’s Burnley. Manchester United have lost each of their last two away games against Turkish opponents in European competition – 0-1 v Galatasaray in November 2012 and 1-2 v Fenerbahçe in November 2016.
HENDERSON IN GOAL, VAN DE BEEK STARTS: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shuffled his pack, with Dean Henderson starting in goal for the first time in the Champions League. Donny van de also starts with Paul Pogba on the bench. Anthony Martial leads the line alongside Marcus Rashford. Lindelof, Fred, and Greenwood also make way, as Axel Tuanzebe, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic come in. There are plenty of familiar faces in the home line-up. Demba Ba, the former Chelsea and Newcastle striker, starts, as does former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and former Man Utd full-back Rafael.
