A GOOD OMEN FOR DOMINANT BAYERN
Bayern have won all eight of their Champions League games this season. The last time they did that, in the 2019-20 season, Bayern went on to win the competition. Bayern won all of their Champions League matches that season, although the quarter-finals and semi-finals were one-legged affairs because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

BAYERN HAVE "PREPARED WELL"
Tuchel knows what to expect, having faced Guardiola's City five times when he was Chelsea manager. "It's pretty obvious how City will play," Bayern's new boss said pre-match.
"You can see the effect Pep has had on the team after six or seven years there. They are a very attacking side and in good form. I think we've prepared well."

PROLIFIC HAALAND
Erling Haaland's 10 goals are the most in this season's Champions League. It does not seem he will be debuting a new hairstyle tonight, however.

MANAGER HEAD-TO-HEAD
The two managers are familiar foes, having faced off when Guardiola was in the Bayern dugout and Tuchel managed Mainz then Borussia Dortmund, plus when Tuchel was at Chelsea and Guardiola with City.
Guardiola has won six of their previous 10 meetings, with Tuchel victorious three times, but that includes their most famous match-up - the 2021 Champions League final Chelsea won 1-0. Tuchel won three of their five matches when at Chelsea, but Guardiola won the last two. Read into that what you will.

PEP PRAISE FOR "CREATIVE" TUCHEL
"He's so creative with good build-up and connection, good runners and players who are good in the spaces," Guardiola said of his opposite number before this one. He also expects an attacking outlook from Tuchel's side, and the starting 11 would seem to confirm this.

BEST TWO DEFENCES FACE OFF
Bayern have conceded twice in eight Champions League games this season, City three. They possess the two best defensive records in the competition.

GNABRY UP FRONT FOR BAYERN WITH CANCELO AND MANE ON BENCH
Tuchel makes three changes from the weekend's 1-0 win at Freiburg. On-loan Man City man Joao Cancelo dropping to the bench is one of them, with Dayot Upamecano coming into defence. Thomas Muller also must make do with a place on the bench, replaced by the more defensive-minded Leon Goretzka, and Kingsley Coman comes in for Sadio Mane.
There is no Eric Choupo-Moting - out with injury - so it falls to Serge Gnabry to play through the middle. Leroy Sane starts versus his old team.
Bayern Munich: Sommer, Pavard, de Ligt, Upamecano, Davies, Kimmich, Goretzka, Musiala, Sane, Coman, Gnabry.

SILVA RETURNS FOR CITY
Guardiola is often accused of overthinking it in the Champions League, but makes just one change to the team which thrashed Southampton 4-1 on Saturday. Bernardo Silva comes in, with Riyad Mahrez dropping to the bench. John Stones likely continues in a hybrid midfield role, while in-form Jack Grealish keeps his place.
Manchester City: Ederson, Akanji, Dias, Ake, Stones, Rodri, Gundogan, De Bruyne, Silva, Grealish, Haaland.
