Arsenal v Lens LIVE: Gunners hit Lens for six in UEFA Champions League

Arsenal are wearing black armbands this evening in memory of Megs Wilson, the wife of legendary goalkeeper Bob Wilson. Megs did extraordinary work over the past 24 years with the Willow Foundation, a charity that she set up with her husband as a legacy for their late daughter, Anna. Our thoughts are with the Wilson family at this time.

The game is underway at a buzzing and slightly hazy Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are in their classic red and white, while lens are wearing a snazzy black number with red trim.

It looked for a while like Arsenal might qualify before even kicking off tonight, with Sevilla 2-0 up against PSV. But a red card and a three-goal comeback from the Dutch side means that the Gunners are not yet through, one point ahead of PSV and four clear of Lens as it stands.

Tonight’s French visitors to north London are in a decent run of form, surging up the Ligue 1 table in recent weeks. Currently sixth and on the back of an unbeaten domestic run that stretches back to September, this isn’t a team to be taken lightly, not least because their Champions League qualification hopes are hanging in the balance.

Mikel Arteta believes this season’s Arsenal are a cut-above what his players produced last season. Here’s what they boss had to say about that mentality ahead of today’s game:

“At the end, it is the capacity and the amount of resources you have to win a game, how many ways can you find to win a game,” said Arteta.

“And that a lot comes from mentality and having that will to win, regardless of what is happening. Take it personally and make it happen.”
