Late goals from Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji gave FC Copenhagen a memorable win in a memorable game, in the process increasing the pressure on Manchesterr United and Erik ten Hag. With Bayern Munich now through, tonight’s teams, along with Galatasaray, will compete for last-16 and Europa League places with just a point splitting them and United must play their two remaining fixtures without Marcus Rashford, sent off tonight.

United started the game well, a fine move culminating in a tap-in for Rasmus Hojlund on there minutes. United, though, started the second half well and took the lead with a penalty of their own, Maguire’s header hitting Lerager’s arm; Fernandes slammed the penalty into the roof and United had something to hang onto.

But they couldn’t keep it, Diogo Dalot losing Lerager at the back post on 83 minutes before the substitute Bardghji swept in a winner on 87 that sent the Parken into raptures.

But they just can't get a run going. Ultimately, Varane and Maguire ought to be good enough to see out the 3-2; at worst a 3-3. Again, though, key errors at crucial times cost them, just as happened away to Bayern and at home to Gala. They just lack that authority and composure, especially without Casemiro and Martinez.

They might wonder quite how it happened - I'm sure United will - but they stuck to it and forced a result. Bayern are through, FCK second with four, Gala third with four, and United bottom with three. I've not a clue which of those is making it through.

I am in awe of them. In fairness, they've had ill luck with decisions - the red card and penalty are calls you've seen go the other way - but bad decisions at bad times have cost them, yet again.

They flap at a succession of balls into the box, and have Mount through the middle. I also don't get that, because FCK are so high but he doesn't really have the pace to get away into the space.

Mount for Hojlund. I don't totally get binning your striker when you need a goal, especially when he's your out-ball, but let's see.
