Simeone's side take a two-goal lead into the second leg, and they were decent value for it. This wasn't a vintage Atletico Madrid performance, but they certainly did enough to claim the win. They can start looking forward to an appearance in the competition's quarter-finals. They have one foot in the final four with this result.

That should have been the third goal. Griezmann was played in behind, but his initial shot was saved at the near post. Then Gaitan can't squeeze in the rebound under pressure.

And here comes the final change for Atletico Madrid. Off comes captain Gabi Fernandez and on comes Nico Gaitan in his place.

Having said that, the changes Las Palmas have just made don't hint at a team who believe they are still in this tie. They are wrapping up their best players in cotton wool.

The home side are making a go of this. Of course, a goal, even if they end up losing, could be crucial as they head into the second leg. They could still claw this back at the Calderon.

That's a booking for Vrsaljko with 15 minutes left to play. The right back accepts the decision as he enters the book.

This has become quite an open game in the last five minutes or so. Las Palmas are showing more in the way of attacking intent. Atletico still have some defending to do.
