FORSBERG SHOULD HAVE SCORED! Randolph is forced into a diving save, reacting to a deflected freekick delivery, but Forsberg fires over the rebound when he should have found the net.

Ireland have worked hard for that but they finally have the lead! They have been the better team and now the scoreline reflects that. O'Neill's side are ahead and good value for it.

Ireland had the better of the first half but they couldn't find the breakthrough against a Sweden side who were rather toothless. Who will take control of this contest after the restart?

HALF-TIME: Ireland 0-0 Sweden. Not much quality on show between the two teams, but plenty of effort and endeavour. Can either side find a breakthrough after the interval?I hope so!

Hendrick and Brady have been the standout performers for Ireland so far. Hoolahan has also come into the game as it has progressed. The Boys in Green have been the better side.

LONG WANTS A PENALTY KICK! Hoolahan puts a wicked cross into the Swedish penalty area, with Long and Walters in there. But neither get there and Long has his appeals for a spot kick turned down.

Once again Sweden don't look too comfortable defending Ireland's set piece deliveries. This time, however, they survive, with a thumping clearance at the back post. That's a weakness, though.

For the most part Sweden seem to be quite happy to sit back and absorb much of the Irish pressure. They seem quite confident that the Boys in Green don't have the quality to cut through them.

However, Ireland need to also keep things tight at the back. Sweden seem to have weathered the storm of a few minutes ago and are now launching an attack of their own.
