Slovakia look rattled now, unsurprisingly so. Bale almost gets a chance to create another chance on the edge of the box, but he can't quite make room.

The Welsh fans in Bordeaux have gone quite, quite mad, and they have every right to do so. Bale's first goal for Wales was also against Slovakia. A magnificent celebration too, as Bale sprinted towards the bench and piled in with the whole squad. Superb!

GOAL! GARETH BALE GIVES WALES THE LEAD! Of course it was him! Free-kick for Wales around 30 yards out just to the right, Bale lines it up and makes decent contact, but the keeper had stepped behind his wall and couldn't reach a shot well inside the post. What a start!

Wales have a free-kick deep on the left, which Ramsey swings over. Slovak keeper Kozacik flaps at it a bit and a minor goalmouth scramble ensues, but despite Joe Allen lining up a shot, they can't get an effort on goal.

Wales are settling down a bit now after frankly being a bit overrun in the opening couple of minutes. Bale hasn't really been able to get on the ball much though.

WHAT A CHANCE FOR SLOVAKIA! AND WHAT A PIECE OF DEFENDING! Brilliant work from both teams - Marek Hamsik slaloms through the Welsh defence, creating a one-on-one for himself. He fires beyond Danny Ward, but Ben Davies slides in and clears off the line. Absolutely superb.

Looks like it's going to be Bale on his own up top with Jonny Williams and Aaron Ramsey just behind him. So a sort of 3-4-2-1 formation.

And we're away!
The captains have tossed the coin. Looks like Slovakia are going to kick-off.
The last person to score against Wales in a major tournament was a 17-year-old Pele. With the greatest of respect to Vladimir Weiss, the other bookend will probably be a disappointment by comparison.

The players are in the tunnel. 58 years in the making, this moment. The Welsh players look a little nervous, but at the same time like they mean business.

Tension mounting. How are the nerves, Welsh fans?
