Hello and welcome to Eurosport's coverage of the Euro 2016 Group D qualifier between Germany and the Republic of Ireland from Gelsenkirchen. This is Nick Royle (@nickaroyle) taking you through all the action from the Ruhr Valley.

Quick build-up from Germany down the left and a cutback from Bellarabi, but Kroos mishits his shot 12 yards wide.

McClean is unable to chase down a long ball down the left and Boateng shepherds the ball out for a goal kick.

Kroos takes the free-kick with a clip to Muller, but Rudiger's free header is well wide of Forde's goal.

O'Shea pushes Gotze in the back and it is a free-kick for Germany 30 yards from goal.

Wilson seems to clip Muller but referee Damir Skonnmina says play on.

Germany are making sure that McGeady and McClean have little time on the ball. Hummels is often stepping out from the back four for Germany, and nobody is picking him up.

Plenty of possession for Ireland in the first ten minutes - not too bad a start for Martin O'Neill's side.

Keane is caught by a German defender but Hummels is able to clear the free-kick.

Germany are dominant in midfield - not sure either Whelan or Quinn have had a touch yet!

HITS THE BAR: Bellarabi is stopped by Ward, but the ball drops to Durm on the edge of the area and his deflected shot hits the top of the crossbar.

Wilson is loose with a clearance but right-back Rudiger's shot from 35 yards is wild and well wide of David Forde's goal.

An attempt at triangles down the centre, but Bellarabi is unable to get past McClean down the right and the Wigan player is then fouled.

As O'Neill said before the match, Walters starts on the right. McClean injures Bellarabi in a tackle and there is a brief pause in play.

Ireland kick off from right to left. Jon Walters forces an early throw down the right, which is easily cleared.

A rousing chorus of the German national anthem, and the stadium in Gelsenkirchen looks amazing.

Ireland are all in green, Germany in all white tonight as the anthems are played in Gelsenkirchen.

Germany are in in fourth place in Group D with three points after two games following their first European Championship qualifier defeat since 2007 at the weekend. Ireland are in second place behind leaders Poland with six points from their two matches.

Ireland manager Martin O'Neill on his starting eleven, talking to Irish broadcaster RTE: "I see Jon Walters starting on the right, with Aiden McGeady given a free role. We will see how it goes - if Aiden is unable to get into the game, as sometimes happen away from home, we might revert roles."

Germany are on a 17-game unbeaten run in competitive matches at home and beat Ireland twice in the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup, 6-1 in Dublin and 3-0 at home.
