And that's that. England have won, and perhaps more importantly have won with some style too. Hodgson put his side into a system that suits them, and the qualifying campaign is off to a fine, fine start.

GOAL! WELBECK SEALS IT! That's that, as England counter and Sterling feeds Lambert, who likewise passes on to Welbeck, who takes his time and slots the ball into the far corner with a cool, cool finish.

Rodriguez cuts inside and takes a weak shot with his right foot, but it takes a fierce deflection, luckily straight at Joe Hart.

Sterling plays a long crossfield pass that Djourou makes a mess of on the edge of the area, Rooney nips in and nods to Welbeck, whose shot is blocked behind for a corner.

Inler is given a ludicrous amount of room around 25 yards out to measure a shot, which he duly takes and it whistles just over the bar.

Djourou managed to hurt himself in that challenge, after the fouled Delph landed on his back. He has some treatment but should be OK to continue.

England perhaps should have a penalty - Delph controls the ball on the edge of the area, but his touch is slightly heavy and Djourou comes out to tackle him. He wipes the Villa man out, getting only a little of the ball after plenty of the man, but the ref doesn't point to the spot.

Switzerland coming into the game now - a few frantic blocks from the English defence keep them out, but the signs of nerves are there.

Stones wins the ball on the right and has the chance to launch an attack for England, but instead just hits a long aimless ball straight through to Sommer.

England make a change - that hamstring problem hasn't cleared up for Jones, and Phil Jagielka comes on for him.

Seferovic hits the bar with a fine first-time volley, but the flag is up for offside anyway.

Another near thing for England - Delph cuts it across goal with Sterling lurking at the far post, but it's blocked before it reaches the Liverpool man.
