To warm up for this one, Ukraine's squad have been in London for almost a week. They took on Brentford B in a friendly - which they won - met with children who have fled from Ukraine to England because of the Russian invasion, and then yesterday trained at Wembley ahead of the match.

FIRST MEETING SINCE EURO 2020
These two teams last played in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, with England winning 4-0 in Rome. Six England starters from that night do so today, including two-goal Harry Kane and fellow scorer Harry Maguire, while Henderson came off the bench to score the fourth.

FODEN OUT AFTER HAVING APPENDIX OUT
One of the reasons it has opened up for Maddison to start is the absence of Phil Foden. Foden today had surgery to remove his appendix and is a doubt for Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, on top of being absent today.

MADDISON MAKES FIRST ENGLAND START
James Maddison is the standout name on the England teamsheet, with the Leicester City playmaker making his first-ever senior international start. Ben Chilwell replaces the suspended Luke Shaw at left-back and Jordan Henderson comes into the midfield as Southgate makes three changes compared to the side which beat Italy 2-1.
