Northern Ireland v San Marino LIVE: Euro 2024 qualifier updates as Michael O'Neill's men look to get back to winning ways, following five defeats on the bounce

Back to winning ways for Northern Ireland and that will matter more than the performance, but it might also feel like a missed opportunity. Or a series of missed opportunities. They may not have scored any or many more but they'd have made more of the match than high possession stats.

Which means he's out of the Slovenia game on Tuesday. It didn't look that severe, but it was certainly unnecessary, as it came on the halfway line. He remonstrates with the fourth official to no avail.

He read it well and was almost one on one, but the keeper did well to come out and deal with it.

ANOTHER SAN MARINO SUBSTITUTION

Lorenzo Capicchioni comes off and is replaced by Luca Ceccaroli.

They're looking to limit the damage and are having some success. Not that Northern Ireland are helping themselves in that respect.

A real bit of pace sees Thompson charge into the box, play it to Washington who snaps a shot which is saved and brings up a corner. Nothing comes of it, but that's how they should have been playing all match.

As a sometime Arsenal fan, I can relate to just wanting them to have a pop.

Two good saves by Elia Benedettini. The first is to a shot from Isaac Price, with the rebound coming out to Callum Marshall whose header is also saved.

Confusing moment there. Washington received a booking, moments after coming on, for going studs up on Lorenzo Lazzari. The referee goes to take a look at the video replay when it looks as if he's going to be changing it for a red, but instead appears to cancel the initial booking. He's still on the pitch at least.

THREE NI SUBSTITUTIONS IN ONE

As he comes off for Isaac Price Jonny Evans hands the captains armband over to Daniel Ballard. Conor Washington and Callum Marshall are the other two on, in place of Smyth and Magennis. Will these changes make any difference, or at least inject a bit of energy into the game?

Midfielder Marcello Mularoni comes on for "striker" Matteo Vitaioli.

One on one with the keeper, he misses the target completely. Should be 3 - 0.

Purely the result of Northern Ireland error. Capiccioni takes it and it somehow finds Lazzari who... slices it over. And that's why they're bottom of the FIFA world rankings.

It's not been pretty, or productive, but they've had the ball in the San Marino half.

A short corner finds Smyth who looks to find Paddy McNair but instead wallops the ball out for a goal kick. Not... great tbh.
