Europa League: Roma through against RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen need penalties against Monaco

Bayer Leverkusen were able to overcome a 3-2 deficit from their first leg match against Monaco and win the second match by the same margin in the principality on Thursday night. Xabi Alonso's men ultimately won on penalties, while Sevilla squeezed past PSV Eindhoven. Elsewhere, RB Salzburg lost to Roma as Jose Mourinho's men progressed into the next round.

Bayer Leverkusen knocked Monaco out of the Europa League on penalties after winning 3-2 on Thursday night in the principality, while Roma toppled RB Salzburg.
Florian Wirtz put Xabi Alonso’s men in front as they chased a 3-2 deficit in Monaco.
Wissam Ben Yeddar scored from the spot on 19 minutes to level things, before Exequiel Palacios hit back two minutes later.
Leverkusen then took the lead in the tie overall on 58 minutes, before Swiss striker Breel Emolo levelled on aggregate on 84 minutes to take it to 5-5.
Neither side scored in extra time, forcing the match to penalties, with Moussa Didaby scoring the final spot-kick in a 5-3 win.
Roma overcame a 1-0 deficit to win at the Stadio Olimpico over RB Salzburg, a 2-0 victory taking them into the next round.
Andrea Belotti scored on 33 minutes to level things on aggregate, before fellow summer signing, the reinvigorated Paulo Dybala, scored the winner seven minutes later.
Xavi Hernandez's side went ahead from the spot through Robert Lewandowski after 18 minutes, with Fred levelling just two minutes after the second half restart, and Antony's neat finish on 77 minutes proving the winner.
Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Rennes in France after they fell 2-1 on the night, before winning 5-4 on penalties.
Goals from Robin Knoche, Josip Juranovic and Danilho Doekhi for the home side gave Union Berlin a 3-1 win over Ajax, who scored through Mohammed Kudus, and had Edson Alvarez sent off after 97 minutes.
Sporting Lisbon made light work of their second leg against Danish side Midtjylland.
Sporting won 4-0 after taking a 1-0 lead with them from the first leg, as Sebastian Coates opened the scoring, Pedro Goncalves notched twice, and Stefan Gartenmann put through his own net let on, with the Danes having Paulinho sent off on 38 minutes.
PSV fell just short against Sevilla, with the Spanish side 3-0 up after the first leg. The Dutch team scored their first on 77 minutes through former Sevilla player Luuk de Jong, and Fabio Silva added another in injury time before PSV’s Mauro Junior saw red on 97 minutes.
Juventus cruised past Nantes with an easy win in France. Angel Di Maria, linked with a free transfer to Atletico Madrid and Barcelona this summer, hit a hat-trick with two in the first 20 minutes, and Nantes had Nicolas Pallois sent off on 17 minutes.
In the Europa Conference League, Ukrainian side Dnipro were hosted at Slovakia’s Kosicka Futbalova Arena as a result of the Russian invasion, with AEK Larnaca holding onto a 0-0 draw to go through 1-0 on aggregate, despite the nominally home side dominating possession.
Fiorentina knocked out Braga. The Italians were 4-0 up from the first leg but goals from Rolando Mandragora, Riccardo Saponara and Arthur Cabral gave them a 3-2 win. The Portuguese side scored twice, through Andre Castro and Alvaro Djalo, briefly leading 2-0 before Mandragora's 37th-minute goal.
Lech Poznan's 1-0 win over Bodo/Glimt featured the only goal of the tie, while Basel overcame a 1-0 deficit with a 2-0 win against Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Sheriff went through to the last 16 with a 3-2 win over the course of both ties against Partizan. They won the second leg 3-1 after Partizan went ahead through Queensy Menig on 13 minutes, only for Cedric Badolo’s penalty and a brace from Mouhamed Diop, just before and just after half-time, made the difference.
Lazio went through 1-0 on aggregate after a goalless draw in Romania against Cluj, who had Karlo Muhar sent off on 77 minutes.
Anderlecht beat Ludogorets 3-0 on penalties after a 2-1 win in Belgium, while fellow Belgians Gent also had to rely on penalties after beating Qarabag 1-0, and won 5-3 in the shootout.
