RAMPING UP THE PRESSURE
The hosts have grown into this, and Dembele is the man fuelling that fire. He gets to the byline and stands it up for Mbappe at the far post, and after gathering the delivery, the PSG forward hits it wide of the target.

CLOSE!
First sighting of goal for France as it's worked well down the right between Dembele and Kounde. It falls into the path of Thuram, who swipes, and fires over the top.

MBAPPE MARAUDS ONCE MORE
... but he's stopped in his tracks by a combination of Kimmich, Rudiger, and Andrich before he can gather any real momentum.

FREE KICK, FRANCE
Dembele is hauled down by Jonathan Tah in his own half.

SETTLING DOWN
The game is at a simmer at present after starting at full boil. Germany are in their rhythm in possession and in their high-octane press out of it, but France are yet to really string together a decent move of yet.
10'
KOUNDE AT RIGHT-BACK
As for France, it seems that their number five, Jules Kounde, is the right-sided full-back, while their number two, and right-back for the last few years Benjamin Pavard, is playing at centre-half.
9'
FLUID AS FIRST THOUGHT
... is Germany's attacking midfield three, with the goalscorer Wirtz on the left, Musiala drifting in off the right, and Gundogan the more 'enganche' type in the number 10 hole.
6'
A ROAR GOES UP
... as Mbappe hares after a lofted ball into the left channel for his first involvement. He stands up Kimmich, but catches the toe of his right boot in the turf, and the chance is gone.
5'
KROOS DROPPING IN
The midfielder is dropping into an auxiliary left centre-back position to create a back three when the visitors are in possession, allowing him to get on the ball and look to lure the French into a naive press that the Germans can break with balls through the lines.

SOME START, THAT
No time to ease ourselves into this one, it seems. Germany are looking to go after their hosts early doors with a high gegenpress; synonymous with a Nagelsmann side. Deschamps' side are looking a bit nervy in Lyon so far...

GOAL! FRANCE 0-1 GERMANY (WIRTZ)
Oh my! Germany take the lead inside eight seconds, as Florian Wirtz fires a thunderous drive in off the crossbar from just after the kick off. It was played into the Leverkusen man in centre-field, and, in plenty of space, the ball sat kindly for him to strike mesmerisingly beyond Brice Samba. What a start!

GERMANY TEAM ANALYSIS
As for die Mannschaft, Nagelsmann goes for the 4-2-3-1, but the attacking midfield trident could be fluid.
Marc-Andre ter Stegen is between the sticks, and Joshua Kimmich is pigeon-holed into the right-back berth, with Max Mittelstadt on the left of the back four. Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah complete a central defensive pairing that boasts real athleticism, and they will be confident in their chances of marshalling Thuram as France's focal point.
The returning Toni Kroos is the deep-lying orchestrator, alongside the ball-winning destroyer Robert Andrich of Bayer Leverkusen, with Ilkay Gundogan presumably a little more advanced in the number 10 role, flanked by the youthful exuberance of Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz.
Kai Havertz, who had previously been trialled at left-back for his country, is back in more familiar territory today as the lone striker.

FRANCE TEAM ANALYSIS
Let's analyse these two teams, shall we?
Didier Deschamps plumps for more of a 4-3-3 shape rather than his preferred 4-2-3-1 with the inclusion of teenager Warren Zaire-Emery, who comes in for the injured Antoine Griezmann.
Brice Samba is in net for the hosts, shielded by the centre-back pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Jules Kounde, who have Kai Havertz as their sole striker to mark.
Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez are two centre-backs filling in at full-back, so don't expect too much by way of overlaps down the flanks beyond Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
Aurelien Tchouameni and Adrien Rabiot offer steely experience alongside Zaire-Emery in the engine room, with Rabiot and the PSG youngster the two eights that flank the Real Madrid sitter.
Marcus Thuram, the Inter Milan forward, leads the line, and will be a presence with his 6'3" height, pace, power, and goal threat.
