In their first appearance since beating England to lift the World Cup, Spain were applauded onto the pitch by the home fans in Gothenburg as they played Sweden in the UEFA Women's Nations League. Before kick-off, Sweden stood in solidarity with Spain in front of a banner translating to "it's over", following the scandal which has dominated Spanish football. Spain won the game 3-2.

'The best way to protect her' - New Spain Women's coach Tome explains Hermoso exclusion

Spain and Sweden stood in solidarity to send a message before their UEFA Women’s Nations League match as they came together in front of a banner which - translated to English - read "it's over".
A further message in English below read "our fight is the global fight", in reference to the continuing drive for equality in football following the Luis Rubiales scandal which has dominated Spanish football.
The action comes after the departures of Spanish FA president Rubiales and manager Jorge Vilda.
Rubiales resigned following the controversy after he kissed midfielder Jenni Hermoso on the lips after Spain's victory over England in the Women's World Cup final, while Vilda was himself sacked.
Playing their first game since lifting the World Cup in August, the Spanish players – also wearing wristbands with "se acabó" – were applauded onto the field in Gothenburg.
Spain had threatened a boycott of the game but it was called off after the Spanish FA said it would make "immediate and profound changes" to its structure, although two players - Patri Guijarro and Mapi Len - opted to leave the training camp.
"We had been demanding that they listen to us for quite some time because we already knew that there had been systematic discrimination with the women's (team) for many decades," Spain midfielder Alexia Putellas said at a press conference ahead of Friday's game with Sweden.
"We had to fight a lot to be heard."
Spain won the game 3-2 following a last gasp winner by Mariona Caldentey, who converted a penalty six minutes into stoppage-time after Amanda Ilestedt was sent off.
Magdalena Eriksson had given the hosts the lead before Athenea del Castillo equalised before the break.
Eva Navarro's 77th-minute goal put Spain ahead but Sweden thought they had salvaged a point when Lina Hurtig levelled matters five minutes later, before the late drama ensured new Spain manager Montse Tome marked her first game in charge with victory.
