The Andalucians took the lead after 21 minutes through Argentine striker Lucas Lobos, but second-half goals from Ruben Pulido, Sergio Pachon and Riki put them down with already-relegated Malaga.
Alaves, in 18th place, look favourites to join Cadiz and bottom team Malaga with one game left to play after losing 3-0 away to Real Zaragoza.
They are two points short of 17th-placed Espanyol who lost 2-0 in the Nou Camp on Saturday to champions Barcelona.
Barca are top with 82 points, 13 ahead of Valencia in second place who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
Real Madrid, level on 69 points with Valencia, had the chance to move three points ahead of them with a win against Villarreal in the Bernabeu later on Sunday.
Fourth-placed Osasuna failed to make sure of playing in the Champions League for the first time next season when they let slip a one-goal lead to lose 2-1 at Racing Santander.
Osasuna have 65 points, Sevilla are fifth with 62 and a game in hand and Celta Vigo sixth on 61 after drawing 2-2 with Real Sociedad.
