Jose Mourinho continued his war of words with Barcelona by claiming that he was "provoked" into poking Tito Vilanova in the eye during the Supercopa defeat at the start of the season.
Mourinho belatedly received a two-match ban for his part in the incident - applicable only to Supercopa matches, and effectively amounting to a let off for a clear jab that was caught on camera.
Vilanova received a suspension for his part in the fracas, which Mourinho insisted was Barca’s fault.
"Maybe I acted badly but it was a natural reaction,” the outspoken Portuguese told Turkish newspaper Hurriyet.
"Football is characterised by emotion and there are times when you are provoked.
"Sometimes you react, and sometimes you don’t. But in this case we were provoked."
