Hello and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Liverpool's Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Aston Villa from Villa Park. The last eight is often the time to bring out the big guns in this competition, but Liverpool do not have such a luxury. The senior side are currently in Qatar preparing for Wednesday's Club World Cup semi-final against Monterrey, with the Liverpool U23s squad taking the reigns in the cup competition. Can a Villa's senior side get the better of these young upstarts? I'm Pete Hall, and I will be bringing you the action, as it happens, live!

Villa, though, are looking to reach the semi-finals of the League Cup for the first time since the 2012/13 campaign; the last Englishman to lead the Villans to the semi-final stage was John Gregory in the 1999/2000 season. Tonight could go either way! We are minutes away...

Liverpool - who remain unbeaten this season domestically, even at this stage in December - have progressed from each of their last four League Cup quarter-finals (2011/12, 2014/15, 2015/16 and 2016/17) since losing 2-0 to Chelsea at this stage in 2007/08.

HEAD TO HEAD: This is only the second League Cup meeting between Aston Villa and Liverpool, with the other coming in the 2002/03 quarter-final - the Reds won 4-3 on their way to winning the competition that season. Liverpool have won each of their last six visits to Villa in all competitions, all coming in the Premier League between December 2011 and November this season.

FIVE LIVERPOOL DEBUTANTS, VILLA MIX IT UP: As we expected, there is something of a new look side in red this evening. There are five debutants in the Liverpool side, who are coached by Neil Critchley tonight. The average age of the starting XI is just over 18-years-old. 16-year-old Harvey Elliott, who has grabbed the attention when he has been included this season, starts in attack. Villa have also mixed it up, making ten changes from their weekend loss at Sheffield United, but Jack Grealish is on a strong-looking bench.
