Real kick off the second period. They were mostly out of sorts in the first 45 minutes but the Bale goal will be a boost and they certainly have the firepower to go ahead at some stage.

Tackles are getting as fiesty as Ronaldo's on Bale in training now, with the superstar visitors somewhat frustrated that Villarreal are matching them in the passing football stakes. Aquino ends up having a speculative dig from 25 yards but it's straight into Lopez's waiting arms.

Modric and Cani go for a high ball and the Croatian catches the goalscorer late. Free-kick in the middle of the park.

Pereira almost sparks another home side attack, but under pressure from Illarramendi he makes the wrong choice of pass and Real clear it up.

Ramos almost lets Giovani in when he mis-judges control but just about salvages the situation.
