Really good save from Julian. Messi takes the freekick on the edge of the box, sending the ball towards the top corner, but the Almeria goalkeeper claws the effort away from the top corner.

YELLOW CARD: Jose Manuel Casado (Almeria)

Almeria by and large have failed to make impression in the final third tonight, but Thievy has been impressive for the away side. Barjuan will take some encouragement from his performance.

That was almost a fourth for Barcelona! Messi's freekick takes a wicked deflection off Zongo in the wall, wrong-footing the keeper, but Julian recovers to make the stop. That would have been cruel.

Of course, Barcelona have a difficult triple header of games coming up. They have Sevilla away at the weekend, then Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, followed by Valencia.

Messi lines up a freekick on the edge of the penalty area, but can only find the wall. He receives the ball on the rebound though, but decides to pass it short to Xavi instead of having another crack.

Messi tries to do his best to wriggle through the challenge of several Almeria players as he drives towards the Almeria penalty area. But Partey does enough to get a toe on the ball and make the challenge.

Messi has the ball in the back of the net, taking down a cross field pass and squeezing a shot past Julian in the Almeria goal. But the referee decides that the Argentine fouled a defender in the process. Contentious.

That change from Barjuan looks to have been made with damage limitation in mind. Mane is a more defensive minded player, and Almeria now want to make sure this isn't a thrashing.

Although the game has passed Roberto by largely, with the same going for Rakitic when he was on, Xavi has been excellent for Barcelona tonight. This might be his last season at the club, but he's still got it.

That's Bartra's first goal of the season. He doesn't score very often and the centre-back is visibly pleased with that header. He ghosted into the penalty area without anyone noticing.

Barcelona haven't even shifted out of third gear tonight for this game. It hasn't quite been as tough as the weekend's game against Celta Vigo, but this hasn't been their best display this season.
