This has been a very commanding performance from Real Madrid. Ronaldo has added another three goals to his tally and Los Blancos have clawed the gap back on Barca to four points.

That's Ronaldo's third hat-trick in his last four games, and he's now equalled Alfredo Di Stefano's record for the most hat-tricks in a Real Madrid shirt. What an incredible player, what incredible numbers.

From a tight angle Ronaldo smashes a low freekick towards goal, perhaps looking for a touch from a teammate, but once again Iraizoz is on hand to make the save, punching away.

Real Madrid have upped the tempo in the last couple of minutes. The introduction of Isco has freshened their play up, although this time he gets in the way of Ronaldo, who is desperate for his hat-trick.

Solid stop from Iraizoz. Marcelo fizzes a pass into Bale, who has lost his marker on the edge of the box. The winger hits it first time, but the Athletic keeper makes the stop and holds on to it at his near post.

I thought that was in. Ronaldo strikes at goal from 20 yards, with his effort looking destined for the top corner. But it flashes just past the post. He'll have to wait for his hat-trick.

Another massive save from Iraizoz! The ball is played to the back post for Bale, who strikes on the volley from close range, but the Athletic keeper is on hand to make a great stop.

And now it's Casillas' turn to make a big save! A cross into the box causes problems for Real Madrid, with the rebound breaking to Guillermo. But his shot is saved by Casillas, who was on the ground!

What a save from Iraizoz! Carvajal plays a good cross into the box for Ronaldo to attack, who flicks a header towards goal. It looks for all the world like a hat-trick for Ronaldo, but the keeper makes the diving save.

The home crowd are enjoying this now. Real Madrid are toying with Athletic Bilbao now. This result will take Los Blancos to within four points of Barcelona at the top of the league.

Illarramendi comes on for the final 15 minutes of the game. Kroos and Modric have become the first choice midfield pairing for Real this season, so this is a chance for the former Sociedad man.

Carvajal plays a neat little pass into the run of Ronaldo, who drives into the box. He pings a shot at the near post, but Iraizoz does well to make the save to prevent Ronaldo from scoring his hat-trick.
