This match has been really short on any kind of attacking quality in the final third. The efforts on goal from both Villarreal and Atletico Madrid have been poor and largely wasteful.

That was wildly ambitious! Pina turns and decides to take the shot from 25 yards out, but his effort is about 30 yards wide of the target and bounces out for a throw in on the far side. Oh dear.

This is interesting. Asenjo is playing every goal kick straight out of play down the left side, with Marcelino indicating to the crowd - who are whistling - that he is telling his keeper to do so.

That's really disappointing. Turan runs the entire length of the pitch, taking Atletico Madrid 60 to 70 yards up the field. But when he gets to the byline his cross is wayward and drifts behind.

That was a lovely pass from Campbell! The on loan Arsenal striker played a blind, reverse pass to Costa - who had made a run in behind the Villarreal backline. But the flag was up for offside.

Even with Turan and Koke on the park, there has sometimes been a disconnect between the midfield and the attacking line for Atletico Madrid tonight. There just hasn't been that understanding.

Atletico Madrid will be looking to make better use of Mandzukic in this second half. The Croatian forward didn't have much of an impact in the opening 45 minutes of the match.

Marcelino decides to make a change at the break, with Rukavina coming off. He didn't have much of an impression as a full-back, and so Gomez - a winger - comes on in his place.

Gabi is afforded acres of space to swing a cross into the Villarreal penalty area, but the home side backline does well to hold firm and make the clearing header to launch a counter attack.

That was disappointing from Campbell. The on-loan Arsenal striker bursts through the Atletico Madrid midfield but misplaces his pass just as Villarreal were looking to create a goalscoring opportunity.

This is a good spell for the home side. Atletico Madrid have struggled on their travels at times this season, and this looks like being another difficult night on the road for Simeone's side.

Right, I'll stop going on about that Oblak save now. I mean, it was really good. I still can't quite believe that the Slovenian goalkeeper pulled it off. But no. That's me done now. Promise.

Atletico Madrid are taking a bit of a breather after some intense Villarreal pressure. The home side must still be wondering how they haven't taken the lead. Oblak defied belief with that save.
