Gareth Bale: It's an honour to be managed by Zinedine Zidane

Madrid’s season has been marked by two changes of coach - Rafa Benitez hired in the summer, sacked in January, with Zidane installed as the Spaniard's replacement.

"It’s an incredible experience [playing under Zidane], he was one of the best players in the world," Bale told journalists ahead of Los Blancos’ Champions League game with Wolfsburg.

"Having him as coach is an honour. He’s proving what a great coach he is. I’m really enjoying working with him and hopefully he continues," he said.

Bale added that he remains thrilled to represent Madrid, but is not satisfied with the trophies won so far.

"I feel I’ve become a better player. When you come to Madrid you know the history. I saw it as a child," he recalled.

"To have contributed is incredible. And I want to contribute more, to win more European trophies and to add more to the trophy cabinet. We’re a little down in the League but we know we’re in a good position in the Champions League and we’ll fight to the maximum for every game. Hopefully that will take us where we want to be.

"I remember when I signed for Madrid [Florentino Perez] told me to win La Decima. It was nice to do that in my first season. Hopefully there’ll be more.

"People expect a lot from you with the price paid but I try to focus every day on my football and what I do in training and in games. Of course there are ups and downs but the important thing is how you react. It’s been a tiring season, with little injuries that have interrupted me, especially when I was playing very well."
