Indeed, Agirrtexe is being carted off the pitch and the away team will have to make a change. That's a huge blow for La Real. He's the man who makes things happen for them.

This could be an issue for Sociedad. Agirretxe seems to have hurt himself in that clash with Navas, and now the stretcher is being readied for the striker on the touchline. Will a change be made?

One of the main criticisms of Benitez this season has been that his style of play is too conservative for Real Madrid - but they have scored 22 goals in their last three home games!

That was something of a half chance for the away side. I think it was Martinez who got to the corner kick cross before his marker, but he could only flick his header past the far post.

The match is yet to settle, but Real Madrid look very dangerous on the attack. Bale in particular looks like he has the beating of the opposition backline. His pace will pose them problems.

RULLI MAKES ANOTHER GREAT SAVE! This time it's Benzema who has the clearcut chance to find the net, but the Real Sociedad keeper saves low down to deny the striker's volley.

RONALDO PASSES UP A GOLDEN CHANCE! Bale breaks free of the Sociedad backline, before squaring a pass across the penalty area. But Ronaldo can only draw the save from Rulli.

Of course, Real Madrid come into this game on the back of an astonishing 10-2 victory over Rayo Vallecano. Not even that win has appeased the club's very demanding fans, though.

Benitez made it clear in his press conference earlier in the week that he believes a campaign is being led against him by the media. He insists he has the backing of Florentino Perez.

PEPE COMES CLOSE TO THE OPENER! The Portuguese defender leaps highest from a corner kick, sending a powerful header towards the target - but Rulli does well to tip it over the bar.

The reception from the home crowd to the announcement of Benitez's name before kick-off was very interesting. He was roundly booed by the Real fans. They want him gone.

This is pretty much a full-strength side for Real Madrid this afternoon. The only key figure missing is Sergio Ramos. Other than that though, Benitez has put out his best starting lineup.

The Madrid press believe this to be Rafa Benitez's last stand. They believe that anything less than a win would result in the sacking of the former Chelsea and Liverpool manager.
