Following the ill-tempered Clasico draw at the Nou Camp on Sunday evening, the away side walked off the pitch, as they had threatened to do in the weeks leading up to the fixture, without the traditional nod to the champions.
So Pique went to Plan B. "As we are a family, and they didn't want to give us a guard of honour, I've asked our staff to make one," Pique said. "With that we are leaving."
But the bickering did not end there.
After the match, Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro said he preferred to win the Champions League ahead of La Liga – with Los Blancos facing Liverpool in the showpiece final later this month.
He told Movistar: "It does not matter if Barca are already the champions.
"I prefer the Champions League final, congratulations to them because maybe they have played better in La Liga."
