They had to be patient, but Barcelona got the job done and then some in the second half. Alaves frustrated the Catalans for an hour, but in the end Messi was just too much for them. He was the star man as he so often is. On this basis, it will be another golden season for the Argentinean.

Where would Barcelona be without Messi? They rely on him to be the difference in games like this. They need more players who can crack open a match in the way Messi can.

Arthur coming on means that Coutinho can now switch over to the left side of the attack. That's where the Brazilian found his best form last season after signing from Liverpool.

That was a decent performance from Dembele, but he just needs to add a final product to his game. If he can do that, Barcelona will have a pretty special player on their hands.

Barcelona fans are quite excited by what they have seen from Arthur over the summer. He has been handed the number eight shirt that used to be Iniesta's. No pressure, then.

Valverde makes a change and Arthur comes on for his La Liga debut.

SUAREZ WAS THROUGH! That should have been Barcelona's second goal. Suarez was clean through, but he rushed the shot and Pacheco stuck up a hand to make the save.
