Right on cue, Suarez makes a run in behind to give Roberto an option for the pass, but Varane came across and made the block. It actually came back off Suarez and it's a goal kick.

Suarez has offered Barcelona next to nothing. The Uruguayan has been completely isolated in attack, but he's not even running the channels to give his teammates an option in behind.

Barcelona gave Kroos far too much space about 25 yards out, with the German midfielder getting the shot away. But Kroos gets his angles wrong and slices well wide of the target.

Messi plays the corner to the near post looking for the run of Suarez, but Benzema was alert to the idea and makes the headed clearance. Good awareness from the French striker.

Does Ramos have a problem? The Real Madrid captain has been talking to the bench and now Militao has been sent to warm up. Might Zidane be forced into a change? Something to keep an eye on.

VALVERDE... just wide! That would have been a goal of the season contender from the Uruguayan midfielder. Valverde struck the shot on the full volley, but his effort flashed wide of the target. Wow.

Off the line! Courtois did a Superman to punch clear a low cross from the left side, the ball fell to Messi who got the first-time effort away with the goalkeeper absent, but Ramos got back to make the clearance!

There's a strange air around the Camp Nou. The home fans haven't just found their voices again, but it's been subdued for the last 10 minutes or so as Real Madrid have pressed.

Ter Stegen punches clear a corner kick and then collects a header when the ball comes back into the box. The Barcelona goalkeeper is having to do more work than he'd surely like.

PICTURE: Messi has been kept relatively quiet so far.

Double save! Ter Stegen kicks away the ball with an outstretched leg to prevent Benzema from finding a teammate in the middle. The Barca keeper then pushes a Casemiro shot around the post.

There's no doubt that Real Madrid have had the better of the first half so far. Barcelona have perhaps seen more of the ball, but the visitors have registered four of the first five efforts on goal.

It seems that Barcelona are doing their best to rough up Varane. The French defender has so far had his thigh stood on, his shirt pulled by Rakitic and then Alba squared up to him. A target? Varane feels he should have had a penalty for what he saw as a foul by Lenglet.

There's the first yellow card of the match and Rakitic is shown it for clipping the heels of Isco. No question about that.

This is perhaps where Barcelona miss Busquets. They seem to be lacking that link between their defence and midfield. That's, of course, where the veteran midfielder plays.

Real Madrid are playing a very high line. They know that Suarez isn't going to beat Ramos or Varane for pace over the top and Griezmann isn't playing through the middle. He's out left.
