FULL TIME: Real Madrid 2-0 Getafe

This result will see Real Madrid close the gap on Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga to five points, although their city rivals will still have two games in-hand. Just about in the race.

There will be two minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the match.

A couple squad figures did leave the Santiago Bernabeu in January. Jovic returned to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan and has already scored as many goals as he did in 18 months at Real Madrid.

The Champions League last 16 tie against Atalanta is looming on the horizon for Real Madrid. That will be a big test for Zidane and his players although Atalanta’s form has dropped off recently.

Right on cue, Asensio is hooked off. Isco will get a run out in the final 10 minutes.

Another Real Madrid attacker who has struggled for fitness over the last two seasons is Asensio, but the Spanish international has found some good form. He’s a first team figure again.

And Timor is also on off the bench to try and make a difference for Getafe.

A change for the away side as Unal comes on for the final 15 minutes.

Indeed, there have been encouraging signs of a partnership developing between Benzema and Hazard, but now the latter will have to watch on from the sidelines again as he recovers from injury.

It’s a shame for Hazard because he produced arguably his best performance so far for Real Madrid in the 4-1 win over Alaves. The Belgian was very impressive in a more central role.
