Real Madrid v Villarreal LIVE - Can defending champions turn up the heat on Barcelona?

Vinicius picks a Villarreal defender's pocket, before crossing just out of reach of Vazquez. Villarreal launch a swift counter-attack which ends with Chukwueze lashing over.

Chukwueze holds off multiple defenders to work a shot on his left foot, which is deflected wide but not rewarded with a corner.

The Belgian is off his line quickly to stop Baena have a one-on-one.

Reina first saves a low Benzema shot well, then seconds later has to thwart Rodrygo one-on-one after the ball is not cleared. Moments before, Baena scuffed his shot when Villarreal had an opening.

Real Madrid 1-0 Villarreal. Torres scores an own goal after good work from Vinicius! That man Vinicius gets past Foyth, cuts back for Asensio who in turn hits a low cross which goes in off Torres. Asensio played the initially ball for Vinicius too so was essential in that goal.

Alaba harries Lo Celso, then when the ball moves backwards gets in Parejo's face. The Austrian thinks he's won the ball, but instead he's penalised.

Vazquez is playing right-back, Nacho on the left. So far their formation is best described as a 4-2-3-1, with Asensio behind Benzema.

Real take a corner short but when the cross comes Rudiger is there to win the header. Reina parries away, before an offlside flag belatedly goes up.
