The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) will be taking disciplinary action against 11 referees for having shown "signs of corruption in official matches," a spokesman for the FPF said on Monday.
The spokesman said the FPF was currently listening to testimony from the referees before deciding what concrete measures to take against them, which could include their suspension from soccer matches.
The decision follows the publication of a book by Carolina Salgado, the former girlfriend of Pinto da Costa, the president of champions and current league League leaders Porto, in which she alleged the club had often paid bribes to referees.
The referees involved - two of whom officiate in Portugal's premier league - are already the target of an investigation by the Attorney General for alleged bribery.
