Carlos Tevez has scored four goals in his last six appearances against former club Manchester United in all competitions. The City captain, second in the scoring charts behind Berbatov on 18 league goals, has scored six times in his last four Premier League outings. The Argentine has, however, netted eight times away from home this term, more than anyone else in the league.

With both sides of Manchester challenging for the title for the first time in many years, the meeting has taken on added significance with Mancini saying there is little between them apart from a confidence that comes with trophies: "Maybe United has more than us a winning mentality because they (have) won (for) a long time, I think this is the difference. "I think that when we start to win trophies it can change. But when you are a team that wins for 20 years your mentality is very strong."
13:20
Former United defender Paul Parker believes City need to lay down a marker in this derby clash: "Maybe Mancini just wants to consolidate his top-four position, but if City have any ambitions of staying in the title race, they need to win. United are vulnerable at the back, as Wolves showed last weekend, and City have the players to cause them problems. Do they have the courage to throw caution to the wind and go for the win?"
13:15
City can move within two points of leaders United if they can grab a first win at Old Trafford since a 2-1 victory in February 2008. The Citizens did the league double over the Red Devils that year under Sven-Goran Eriksson.
13:10
Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong misses out because of an ankle injury. However defender Micah Richards has recovered from a similar problem and starts. Edin Dzeko is on the bench. It looks as though Roberto Mancini has made a surprising selection of his own, fielding Aleksandar Kolarov in midfield. Intriguing.
13:05
Incredibly, league top scorer Dimitar Berbatov starts on the bench for United. Wayne Rooney will lead the attack. Chris Smalling is handed his first start in a Manchester derby. Rio Ferdinand (calf) and Jonny Evans (ankle) are both ruled out, meaning Smalling will partner Nemanja Vidic in the centre of United's defence. Javier Hernandez was the latest member of the Red Devils' international contingent to report back for duty, and also starts on the bench.
