FULL-TIME: City deserved this one, despite the wobble. They put the game out of reach with less than five minutes on the clock, then gave Newcastle a lifeline late in the game. Tevez rose to the occasion to strike a decisive third - and City fans will surely be glad that whatever went before, the Argentine is set to stay as City push in the title race.

BARTON CLOSE! Great effort, low around the wall for the far post. Hart makes a great save to forace a corner.

Four minutes of injury time remain, however, as Lescott protests at the way Carroll manhandles him. Free kick for the hosts, though.

Yellow for Johnson for time-wasting as he kicked the ball away.

Great run from Johnson - looks like he might have mesmerised his man but Taylor recovers to block the shot.

It's taken Balotelli all of a minute to get into trouble - he clips Tiote's heels and the Ivorian didn't like that at all. Yellow card.

Tevez looks happy enough as he high fives his team-mates on the bench. Job done. Manchester City fans - back onside?

Tevez off, Balotelli on. The armband goes to Kompany, and the skipper gets a pat on the back.

Carlos Tevez scored his sixth Premier League double of 2010 for Manchester City, and his fourth this season. No wonder they wanted him to stay.

TEVEZ! GOAL! 3-1! It was Tevez who started it, cutting into the box from the left. He passed it to Johnson, got the ball back, and his shot took a deflection off Coloccini and in it went.
80'
City look very capable of squandering this lead. Who amongst their line-up is going to hold their perofrmance together?
79'
NOLAN! NO! A HAIR'S BREADTH WIDE! Great header from Ranger back into the middle, Kompany left stranded - but Nolan's poke is the wrong side of the post for the home fans.

TEVEZ! Nearly does something special on the break, holding on to the ball and tricking his way through against all the odds, but struggling to get that shot away. Newcastle clear.

Boateng bundles Gutierrez to the ground, and there's a very tasty set piece for the hosts here.
76'
All Newcastle now as Ranger and Simpson work their way down the right. Cross doesn't come in this time, though.

That was Andy Carroll's 11th Premier League goal of the season, and his fifth provided by an assist from Joey Barton.
