FACT: This is an odd one. Wenger: "For us basically it is a new start. We start now and want to win a strong way. I expect Arteta to have an immediate impact - and Benayoun. They are players I admire for their technical qualities. They are mobile and technically gifted. That's the game we want to play, so they should integrate very well. They are all good players, and what we want to achieve of course is to make a good team with the players who came in. Their quality is not questionable."

TEAM NEWS: Maybe a tiny surprise in Leroy Lita being benched, while Dutch midfielder Kemy Agustien continues his run in the first team, in a DM role to cover a defence that has been shorn of Alan Tate (broken leg) and Garry Monk (foot), while new signings Darnel Situ and Rafik Halliche await international clearance from FIFA.

TEAM NEWS: Arsenal have two of the debutants in the starting line up - Mertesacker and Arteta, with Santos, Benayoun and Park all on the bench. Gervinho and Song are banned but Frimpong returns from suspension to partner Wales hero Ramsey in the middle. Left-back Gibbs returns from injury though, a boost for the Gunners.
