Van Persie hacked by Wilshere. He really is the new Scholes, isn't he? Could have gone for a second yellow there...

Giroud! Does well to receive the ball eight yards out, turn and get his shot away - but it clangs off the outside of the post and wide!

Arsenal have ridden the storm, and improbably, they are still very much in this.

And here's the logical change - Theo Walcott comes on for Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal starting to get a bit more joy as they break down the left - Cazorla crosses and Evans heads clear.

Yeah, sorry about that. Several Arsenal subs are warming up - you'd imagine Walcott is the most likely man to come on.

NEWSFLASH: Oh-em-actual-gee, Lucy Spraggan has quit X-Factor.

Decent break down the Arsenal left... played low to the edge of the six-yard box by Santos, but once again the Arsenal forwards are hanging back around the penalty spot.

Young crosses low from the left... it goes all the way through to Rafael who scuffs it, and then the ball falls for Carrick who shoots off target from long range.

United win a corner as Sagna puts the ball behind from Rooney. Arsenal clinging on, but the longer they stay in touch the more confident they will become.

WHAT A CHANCE!! Vermaelen slips again and Vam Persie crosses for the unmarked Valencia who misses a virtual open goal! He barely made any contact with it!

We're back! United kick the second half off, playing from right to left. Perhaps surprisingly, there have been no changes of personnel.

That's half-time, and both teams go in wondering how Manchester United are still only one up. Santos gets Van Persie as he leaves the pitch! That's awful... Back in a few minutes.

Into the last of three minutes of stoppage time... the away fans chant 'Theo, Theo, Theo!'

Rooney is not the best penalty taketr, but it is unusual to see him miss the target altogether. That was a stinker. Let RVP have the next one.

ROONEY MISSES FROM THE SPOT!! He drags his shot wide of the left-hand post, and that's an awful penalty. Justice probably done, as that was a really harsh award.

Think Stuart Pearce v Switzerland at Euro '96.

PENALTY UNITED! It's handball against Cazorla as he blocked Young's cross. It did hit his hands, but he was protecting his face and that looks very harsh.
43'
Young runs at Sagna and manoeuvres into space, but his attempted threaded pass to Van Persie is too difficult and Arsenal cut it out. Could have just whipped it into the danger area there.
42'
Arteta shows Santos how it is done with a smart tackle on Rafael in the Arsenal left-back position.

Arsenal simply haven't been able to give their forward players any proper support today. I think we'll see a change at the break.
