This is set to be Sunderland’s biggest win over Newcastle in 34 years – since a 4-1 victory at St James Park in the second tier in Feb 1979.

It is 46 years since Sunderland won a top flight derby match by a three goal margin – 3-0 at home in 1967. They last did it away from home in 1966 – 3-0 at St James Park.

So many of the Sunderland players will be thrilled with this performance today, but Simon Mignolet has been the key man for the win in goal.
