Puncheon crosses from deep and as his cross floats to the far post, Al Habsi comes dashing out a long way from goal and, slightly unconventionally, catches the ball and stops the ball getting to Lambert.

Fantastic football from Wigan and Beausejour is found on the left wing. He sees Di Santo make a dash into the box and his low whipped cross finds the Argentine. His touch takes the ball to the bottom corner of the goal but Boruc sticks out a paw and manages to turn the ball away. Great save.

The first long ball of the game and Figueroa controls it easily. He is closed down by Puncheon but it goes out for a goal kick.
11'
A little over-eagerness from Clyne sees Maloney win a free-kick off him inside the Saints half. It is predictably played short. A quick one-two with Espinoza sees Maloney released down the line but his cross is easily caught by Boruc.
10'
Southampton are pressing really high and not letting Wigan settle at all.

McCarthur is robbed of the ball in the centre of the pitch and Southampton break. The ball is switched to Shaw but Wigan refind their shape. The cross is squng in but Lambert's header at the far post, trying to find a teammate, falls kindly to Al Habsi.
8'
Fantastic cross-field pass from Lambert finds Puncheon who cuts inside Espinoza but his cross is over-hit and it goes out tamely for a goal kick at the far-post.
7'
Maloney takes the corner but it is short and Rodriguez clears at the near post but only for another corner. Shaw clears again though.
6'
Bit of a scrappy start from both sides. Both enjoying the ball but no pace or precision in the play just yet. Wigan get a corner after Stam bursts forward from the right but his cross is blocked. The centre backs are up.
5'
Wigan waste the free-kick trying to playthe ball square and give away a throw to Southampton in their half. The Saints, predictably pass the ball around the midfield and the ball ends up with Clyne at right-back.
4'
Wigan put together some passes now but Stam loses the ball trying to dribble inside. Southampton try to counter but Figueroa steps in and the ball is in midfield with Wigan.

Both teams playing in a very continental style. I don't think the ball has left the ground. Southampton with the ball though and they put together a move which ends up with Schneiderlin taking a speculative shot from the edge of the area but the ball goes over the bar.
2'
Southampton settle the better of the teams as Ramirez and Lambert link up to get the Uruguayian into the penalty area but his cut back only finds Caldwell.

Referee Andre Marriner gets the game underway. Wigan kick us off shooting from left to right.

If Southampton win today they will put a six-point gap between themselves and today's opponents Wigan in the relegation zone. Following QPR's draw to Norwich there is a huge incentive for Wigan to extend the gap between them and the Premier League's basement club to six-points and also draw level with the Saints on 23 points. A few interesting facts about Wigan and Southampton. No Premier League side has conceded first on more occasions than Wigan this season. They have done so in 16 games. This shouldn't worry the Latics too much though because Southampton have thrown away a league-high 22 points from winning positions this season.
14:45
This is the first time ever Southampton have played an away game at Wigan and only the third time they have ever faced the Latics. The first game was an FA Cup fourth round tie in 1986 which the Saints won 3-0 and the other was Wigan's 2-0 win at St Mary's earlier this season.
14:40
Mauricio Pochettino's second game in charge was an away trip to Manchester United but according to Sir Alex Ferguson they were the best team to play at Old Trafford all season. Pochettino said of the game: "I'm very proud [of Ferguson's praise]. In the second half we were dominating and we were taking the game to them. I'm proud of the way we played and that performance will give my players confidence to play on like that in the future"
14:35
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was disappointed in midweek to drop two points against Stoke but was pleased with his sides comeback in the second half and will be hopeful of a repeat performance this afternoon. He said: "We dropped two points and the truth is we can't give two points away. We shouldn't have conceded two goals but I couldn't be prouder of our performance in the second half."

SOUTHAMPTON TEAM NEWS: New signing Vegard Forren does not make the bench for the Saints despite rumours in the week he would be making his Premier League bow. Mauricio Pochettino has recalled 17-year-old Luke Shaw to left-back in place of Danny Fox in the only change to the team that lost to Man Utd in midweek. Saints skipper Adam Lallana is on the bench following his return from injury. Jose Fonte and Guily Do Prado are both out with knee injuries.
