Garry Monk celebrated being handed a permanent contract by Swansea City in style by guiding his team to a convincing win at Sunderland.
Gus Poyet's men were effectively safe, but put in a pretty poor showing as goals from Nathan Dyer and Marvin Emnes had them 2-0 down early on. Fabio Borini pulled one back at the start of the second half, but Wilfried Bony continued his fine form to make it 3-1.
Swansea didn't take long to find a way through the hosts' defence as Wayne Routledge cut inside to play a fine pass for Dyer, and the winger finished expertly with some fine footwork followed by an excellent dink over Vito Mannone. And the Swans soon doubled their advantage, with Marvin Emnes bagging a rare goal after expertly turning John O'Shea before rifling a powerful effort into the net.
Sunderland started the second half strongly, and soon got themselves back into the game as Borini glanced in Adam Johnson's corner, although the comeback didn't last long. Adam Johnson almost made it 2-2 immediately, but after his shot was blocked Swansea restored their advantage through Bony, who produced a smart turn and fine finish to make it 3-1.
Gus Poyet decided to introduce Ondrej Celustka, Jozy Altidore and El-Hadji Ba to try and get his side back into the game, but aside from Altidore missing a decent chance after being put clean through, Swansea held firm. A decent result to begin Monk's permanent reign at Swansea, and further proof if it were needed for Gus Poyet that he has much work to do if his side are not to be involved in another relegation battle next year.
