Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has stated that €100 million (£86 million) is a lot of money to spend on Gareth Bale, according to reports.
The transfer saga surrounding Bale has dragged on for weeks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy likely to demand that Madrid smash the transfer world record they set landing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
But Perez is unconvinced about the fees being quoted in the media and is not sure that Bale is perhaps worth the money that is being reported in relation to a potential move.
“We talk with lots of people and we will see what happens in all our negotiations, with this player [Bale] and with others,” Perez told ESPN.
“We do not usually talk about other players out of respect to the player, the club and the president, with whom I made a good friendship last season during the signing of Luka Modric.
“If I do not talk about names, I do not talk about money. [But] €100 million seems a lot to me, a lot for everything. I do not talk about players nor money because I should not and cannot, out of respect.”
Spanish reports suggest that Tottenham will demand £103 million for Bale or a world record transfer fee plus a player with Fabio Coentrao or Angel Di Maria touted as possible options.
