Toure concedes a throw high up the pitch, and Aston Villa spread the play left. They're forced all the way back to defence.

Clark clipped Suarez, but he did rather exaggerate the pain he was in.

Suarez goes down as if he's been stabbed in the leg, but the ref plays on. Interesting to see what actually happened there.

Sterling is up against Bertrand, the new signing, on the left, and as he tries to run the ball out for a goal kick he wins a free kick from Sterling.

Liverpool move forward but find no way through.

Liverpool to struggle a cross on the right, and Bacuna is tackled in the corner to win a throw. It's flicked on to Weimann, whose shot is blocked.

Villa win a free kick after Sterling has a kick at Delph just after he passed.

Gerrard's corner is challenged for by Benteke and Toure, and Toure is down for treatment after they clashed heads.

Curled in to the back post, Bacuna heads behind - in fact, he handles it behind but Liverpool get a corner.

Delph concedes a free kick with a trip on Sterling as he easily goes past him with the ball. Gerrard takes.

Aston Villa attack down the right but Liverpool win the ball back and counter down the left, the attack coming to the stop as Gerrard, with his trademark passing, sends the ball out of play.

Suarez gives away a foul in the middle of the pitch after challenging for a high ball.

Benteke heads on a high ball that sends Agbonlahor clean through on goal, he dinks the ball over the keeper... and it's just wide!

There is not a woman or man alive who cannot wait to see Holt and Benteke play together. Benteke is a thrilling player, but it he as thrilling as a suspiciously heavy athlete with right-wing leanings? Only God can judge.

Paul Lambert (on Holt and Benteke): "Can they play together? Well if they did they could be a right handful with the physicality they bring. Holty is streetwise. He will get you things. He knows how to use his body. He's an old fashioned No.9. He was fantastic for me at Norwich. I think he was player of the year three times. I wouldn't have a problem with playing Christian and Grant together. I think they would bring a physicality to things."
