Jack Wilshere could be a big loss for Arsenal tonight. He has scored (one) or assisted (three) four of Arsenal’s last five Premier League goals.

Arsenal have won five and lost none of their last eight Premier League games against Southampton, but have won just one of the last four trips to St Mary’s (W1 D2 L1).

Arsenal sit proudly atop the Premier League table but are only a solitary point clear of Manchester City, so will want an away victory to keep the momentum. Southampton lie ninth and could close to within two points of Newcastle United with victory.

Arsene Wenger has rested Jack Wilshere due to an ankle problem and Aaron Ramsey who is struggling with a thigh problem. Mikel Arteta does return from a calf issue to start and Thomas Vermaelen has shaken off a knee injury to make the bench.

So Victor Wanyama makes the bench after a seven-week injury lay-off but influential striker Rickie Lambert misses out. Artur Boruc returns after missing the cup defeat of Yeovil with a hand injury. Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez (both ankle) are absent, as is Dani Osvaldo (club suspension).
