But the visitors have a throw deep in Cardiff's half as Turner slides in. The hosts are launching into City though, pressing them hard all over the pitch.

SHOUT FOR A PENALTY! Cardiff immediately on the attack as Bellamy skins Clichy, fine cut-back to Whittingham who lays it off for Campbell. The former United striker hits the deck but that looked like a dive as Fernandinho kept his feet in.

Manuel Pellegrini: "I prefer the doctor has the final word on this but I think (Kompany) will be out for at least one month. If we do strengthen (at centre back) it will not just be because of Vincent Kompany’s injury. We have a very good squad and we see what happens."

Malky Mackay: "We have got to try and make our stadium a fortress. We have to make sure that it is a tough ask for any team that comes down to our stadium. I have no doubt the way our fans will be this season in terms of their ferocity, support and passion for our club and the way our stadium is, it will lend itself to noise, like we had last season. We will have tough teams coming, top teams coming here and it will be a test for us. But we are relishing that."

So the big team news is that Manuel Pellegrini has replaced the injured Vincent Company with midfielder Javi Garcia, who can also play as a centre-back. Nastasic is not deemed fit enough to start after returning to training following injury, but he is on the bench. Micah Richards is also out with a hamstring injury, which leaves them with one senior centre-half.
