Everton coach Roberto Martinez: "I think Pepe Mel will surprise a lot of people. He has been very successful over his time in Spain. The first time I realised his work was when he was at Rayo Vallecano and he got them promoted to the top league with a very small budget and against the odds. Since then he has done a remarkable job wherever he has been."

West Brom coach Pepe Mel: "We'll be looking to get the ball back as soon as possible and then keeping it. In football, possession of the football is absolutely vital. You cannot go throughout 90 minutes of the game without having the ball, we need to get it back as quickly as possible. The most important thing is that they [the players] want to do it, that they need to be hungry to adapt to the style."

Roberto Martinez won two and drew one of his three Premier League visits to the Hawthorns as an opposition coach with former club Wigan.

Everton have won four and lost just one of the last six meetings with West Brom in all competitions. Infact, the Toffees are unbeaten in their last six Premier League away games (W3 D3).

That controversy kind of overlooks the fact that tonight's match is Pepe Mel's first in charge of the Baggies.

So the big news for West Brom is that Anelka, whose gesture on December 28 landed him in hot water and has today led to shirt sponsor Zoopla ending their association with the club as of the end of the season, starts up front for the home side.
